You know a deal is bad when the guy doesn't give you a single season, or month even, of the level of play you expected to get.

Not a big fan of buying him out. I was hoping to bite the next couple years and get rid of the contract asap. Hope MB has a plan b/c this could hurt long term.

Did he really play that bad for the Habs? Geezus
He just didn't fit and was not really what they needed having lost Markov and Markov's heir apparent Sergachev. They needed an offensive left handed shot dman with speed and that was creative with the puck, none of which Alzner was at that point.

Hilarious. Is he still NHL quality?

He was never the strongest skater and now, after age and injuries have taken a toll on him, he can't keep up with the speed of the game. As a result, he's often out of position and looks like a pylon against quality NHL players. I guess he could be a 7th dman used sparingly like Tampa played Bogosian & Schenn in the post season, but he would have to accept league minimum to do so.

No he was supposed to be a minute chewer to replace Emelin who was lost in expansion draft. Either way it was still a failure of pro scouting.

There was no replacement for Markov, but the 50-60 point Markov everyone remembers no longer existed anyway ( What remained in his late 30s was at best maybe 1 more season as a heavily sheltered PP specialist).

As someone that has a season pass for Laval on AHL.tv, Alzner might be able to be a 7th D in the NHL in spot duty but keep in mind in the AHL he was a 3rd pairing D this past season. He's slow for the AHL.
