OT: Movies, Music, & TV Thread

I saw The Heartbreak Kid with Ben Stiller this past weekend and that was a pretty funny movie.

I'm headed to Vegas with some friends next week. So for some preliminary inspiration, I saw The Hangover last night. I don't think I've laughed so hard at a movie in a long, long time. It's very well written, very good acting, and just down right crazy to watch. I strongly recommend it.

100% agree map94. I didn't think it would be that good..but once it started, I was laughing the entire time.

Public Enemies, however, was quite a disappointment for what I was expecting.

A buddy of mine got Fanboys through Netflix the other day. After watching it, I think it's one of my new favorite movies. It's in the same mold as the typical group comedies like Role Models, etc., but it's got about 12 million references to Star Wars.

I definitely recommend it. Seth Rogen's characters in that film are ridiculous.

a video rental place near by was having a liquidation sale, so I dropped by and picked up about a dozen movies for around $40 mostly some classic westerns and horror movies, but I got my hands on Fargo and The Big Lebowski as well (IE. the two good Coen brothers movies)

any recommendations? this place has practically everything and I might stop by again in a couple of days when the prices drop to $2 per movie

Classic westerns or horror, no, but I might be able to come up with some others based on you liking Fargo and The Big Lebowski. TBL is one of my own personal classics.

you got the big lebowski for only $2? That is quite the deal, it is at least $3 bucks plus shipping on amazon and such.

If you want horror, I am a sucker for Stephen King movies, so if you see The Mist, 1408, Secret Window, or any other movie based on his work, I'd recommend it.

I've seen all those movies, my favorite of the lot by far was 1408. When I said horror I meant the classics though, I picked The Thing (the undisputed best horror movie of all time) and a couple of the Evil Dead movies

Yeah, looking back it was a pretty cliche ending. Weird thing is I read that the director of the movie changed the original ending from the book.

The Thing is definitely a good one. Misery, Carrie, and Pet Sematary are horror classics. Though Pet Sematary is more a comedy the final 30 minutes

If you come across any other good horror movies, please share I love a good scare (not so much the gore-fest ones of today)

Saw Bruno, don't waste your money. Gayest (literally) movie ever. I loved Borat but this movie was really nothing like it, full of gay innuendo everywhere.

It's inevitable that many people will forget this and be angered by the movie, or run away screaming about how it's unacceptable because it involves homosexuality. Homophobia is rampant, which is exactly why this movie was made. As much of an ass as Cohen is, all of his characters are there to show how ignorant and sad stereotypes and prejudices really are.

Plus, I see movies for free, so I'll be seeing it regardless, lol.

I don't understand how you could have went into this movie and not known that Bruno is an over the top gay character and the focus of the movie is like Modo said, basically trolling people. In that way it is pretty much identical to Borat..

LOL yes I watched the commercials. I thought it would be more along the lines of the funny interviews that made the people being interviewed uneasy. Half of the movie must have been about sex toys and anal jokes though lol. No problem with the gay community, just expected something a little bit more like Borat.

well I just got back from seeing it, and I understand Cin's viewpoint now.. that's not to say I didn't really ****ing enjoy it, but this is a much more cruel and graphic movie then Borat was. I think that a decent percentage of people who loved Borat will hate this movie becuase it takes what Borat did and pushes it right to the ****ing edge, and not liking this film isn't a reflection of someone's views on gay culture or anything like that - this film simply is for a very small portion of the population.
