This is the contract that makes me have patience with all of our contracts now. The long term thinking that went into this for the benefit of both the player and the team could very well be what’s going on behind the scenes with any of our big contract negotiations.

Of course we would never be privy to this information, but it’s worth keeping in the back of your mind while we are waiting for news.

And yes this feels like the positivity thread. I love it!

Nobody saw the Morrissey contract coming, which shows how little comes out of the TNSE camp. The Connor and Laine deals could happen tomorrow and none of the talking heads would have a clue.

If Thomas Chabot is worth $8 million AAV, irs Morrissey not worth at least $9 million AAV?

It's amazing that not only nothing comes out form the Jets camp, but nothing comes out from the people they are dealing with like agents and other teams. Ever. What does Chevy say to these people to keep everything so hush-hush??

You treat the other party with the upmost respect and professionalism and they will likely reciprocate.

Poignant story about Morrissey dealing with his Dad's struggle with cancer and death through the constraints of Covid.

Kind of makes all the bullshit about trading Morrissey or leaving him unprotected in the expansion draft seem pretty out in left field. Fans and media too seldom remember that pro hockey players are often dealing with issues beyond the rink, and have to put up with a deluge of hyper-critical commentary if they have a down stretch.

Yes, in retrospect this explains so much. What an awful year it must have been for him.

Agreed. Many people, including some in this forum treat players like an NHL '21 video game or trading cards. Human element is sometimes lost. Not to mention all the interpersonal relationships in and around the game of hockey.

Pet peeve terms often used that irk me but admittedly I'm sometimes guilty of:

"Warm body "
"Bargain basement player"
"He's a stud"
"Rental"

Im sure I'm forgetting many more

Yeah, it must have just been hell for him to deal with it last year.

You are right players are human as well and this is the type of thing that would impact anyone.

Yep ppl think if u pay players a crazy amount they should be superhuman but in fact they are very human with human emotions and problems with just a special talent that is very marketable.

Agree, and it provides some context for why some of the Jets leaders are sometimes a bit curt with the media. They have to read and listen to pundits slagging teammates that are dealing with injuries and personal challenges behind the scenes.

Really touching article. The human element often gets lost. Stark reminder that life is short and tragedy can strike anytime.
