You clearly don't. Theres a reason why everyone loved Barrie in Colorado and now all of a sudden he's terrible and had no worth at the deadline. The Leafs collective defence is awful, the defencemen are just fine. RIelly, Muzzin, Barrie and Holl as your top 4 is pretty good. Add on Sandin, Dermott and Ceci on your bottom pairing and its pretty strong. Like I said, you could add Pietrangelo to that team and their still near the bottom in GA/G
I feel like your reachin sayin everyone loved barrie in colorado, hes always been a mess in his own end. Good as a pp specialist, but def wasnt the type of dmen toronto should have added in the offseason.

I dont think rielly, muzzin holl and barrie is a great top 4... i think its average at best. I think rielly gets overated after his outlier year, and isnt great in his own end... barrie is literal crap in his own end... holl seems good because when you watch other leafs dmen, your standards of whats considered good defense goes down.

Muzzin is solid, but he could start trending down in the near future.

Not defending anything about these conversations but why is Muzzin the guy that could trend down in the near future? You could say that about any defenceman In the league. Is there something you know that we don’t?

Hes 31, and is basically the guy that is going to need to be the physical prescence in torontos defense.... im not saying he is, but he certainly could see his play drop... hes at that age where the wear and tear start to add up.

I like muzzin, and hope he stays healthy through his contract, but there is a lot of milage on him. Its more of a potential concern.

Muzzin has had a great year. Rielly doesn't get overrated, due to an "outlier" year... he's been growing offensively as a player for years. I'd call this year, the "outlier" due to his injuries he's been playing with all year. We'll see once he recovers fully though. He's a very good Offensive LHD, no claims to top 10 or top 20... just very good. He is weak defensively, no question there, but so are many offensive D men. One of the reasons that Leafs so desperately need a D man to play beside him. You put a Manson beside him, and I think they'd compliment each other well, and both would thrive being able to concentrate on what they do best. (Not a trade proposal LOL)

That said, Montour is absolutely not who the Leafs need at all..

Agree montour would be a wrong move... they need basically another guy like muzzin, manson is a good example... if you could find a prime chara or weber that would be nice too ;)

Adam larsson, nurse or savard wouldnt be bad options imo. I dont think the leafs need a top tier dmen, as much as they need the right fit.

I also think the team needs to hold themselves accountable in their own end, forwards included.

Weegar I think would be a fit... Tanev if he could stay injury free like this year.. but he's a good pairing with young Hughes, and they'd be dumb to let him go. Maybe even Roy from Kings, but he's sheltered, and you'd need to see how he'd do less so.

The biggest thing, is holding themselves accountable for effort... it's like the roulette wheel of effort... sometimes it's just not there at all, top to bottom. When they play their game, they are very good... it just doesn't happen often enough. Enjoy the game tonight.

I'd love to know what package centered around kapanen you think will get you a top pairing d-man.

Last time I checked kapanen is on pace for 45 points. I don't think those types of players are centerpieces for top pairing d-man.

Where did he say Kapanen would be the centerpiece?

Why is Buffalo adding? Toronto would add. And more than a 2nd at that.

The Leafs don't need someone like Montour. It's completely the wrong type of player. From a Leafs perspective, i wouldn't even entertain this idea.
