I like when people talk about bad contracts on the Oilers when you have steals like Draisaitl, RNH, Hyman, Barrie and Kane. Even the "bad" contracts like Yamaoto, JP and Foegele are only a million overpaid and expire soon. Nurse is only overpaid by 1.5 million but he still could live up to his contract. What is really hurting us is all the buyout penalties he have but that ends soon.Nuge is huge. What a steal of a contract. He is just getting better and smarter with age. We need contracts like this to compete.
Didn’t really matter at the time cause we had a 2 goal lead and he shut the door the rest of the wayThat is just nonsense, utter and complete.
That goal in the 3rd was Really rough, but yes he was very good otherwise last night and really gave the team a chance to win. Which they took.
Exactly. He's really giving the team confidence and a chance to win each night.Didn’t really matter at the time cause we had a 2 goal lead and he shut the door the rest of the way
Soup. Aside from the one stinker (needs to get that glove looked at) he was stellar
He switched his glove after that one. It's crazy that the announcers didn't pick up on it, but if you look at the backside of the glove, when they scored it was blue, but after that there were several close ups and the backside was white.
I use the same glove... a Brian's G-Netik... mine is one model earlier (V vs X5). Mostly the same.
What happened on that shot, happened to me once (and is common on Brian's gloves). When you open the mitt as wide as it goes,... that's an advantage for Brian's, they spread really wide from thumb to finger, for a huge pocket... anyway, when you do that, the top of the "T" (the T is the part of the pocket that is connected to the lacing) stretches completely straight (rather than as a curve) between thumb and pointer finger and becomes perpendicular to the approaching puck. If the puck hits RIGHT in the middle of that T, there are two pieces of plastic inside the leather that come together there ... it's a hinge so that glove closes easier.
Anyway, if the puck hits right at that "hinge", then the puck can actually push the leather T down and inward, into the pocket and the puck can hit the outside of the T and roll over into the net, rather than the inside of the T and roll into the pocket. It's a matter of millimeters.
Its the kind of thing that really is "get used to the glove" and once it happens once, it won't happen again.
You can sorta see what I'm talking about here. The "hinge" is at the top of the split T, and is bent right now in this photo. If you open that glove as wide as it goes, the leather becomes straight from thumb to index finger and you lose a bit of "height" to the pocket. If you are used to other gloves, they are a bit too stiff to open all the way, so you don't lose that extra height and you don't hit the T in a way that it can roll over.
Sorry... TLDR. It was an equipment thing and sometimes you take the good with the bad.
I hear Taylor Halls house is availableI think it's time to buy Broberg a house in Edmonton
It’s incredible what an impact a few small changes can have. You mentioned going back to the 1-3-1 but they’ve also been supporting the breakout a bit better, not as consist as I’d like to see but they are making strides. Small changes in defensive schemes have also helped them bring down shots against, which helps our goaltender be better. Finally they are starting to protect the front of the ent much better. Adding Desharnais has helped a lot in that regard but we’re seeing it from other guys as well.Woodcroft is coaching like Woodcroft again- our neutral zone structure has gone back to the 1-3-1 he had so much success with last season. I'm not sure why he ever went away from that to start the season, but it's nice to have the Woody we all know back. It's no surprise that we're playing better lately.
Anymore talk of Zegras over Broberg?Quietly emerging as a legitimate everyday NHL D man.
Yeah, theres a name for that kind of characterHasn’t been seen on the oilers board since the kings game, although he was browsing the provorov thread and posting there tonight, guess doesn’t have much to say about the last 4 games despite being around.
i bet if we had lost those games he’d be around
Please dont. Please.Anymore talk of Zegras over Broberg?
A MINI BERGERON IMONuge is huge. What a steal of a contract. He is just getting better and smarter with age. We need contracts like this to compete.
easy nowYeah, theres a name for that kind of character

This!No Yams or JP, we actually looked like a professional team. Just beat one of the hottest teams in the league to boot.
its good for him. I think he is the type of fella that need this confidence to get his mojo going. Great to have a stable goaltending duoCampbell has been outstanding in his last 4 starts.

Lets start on Deshnarnais for never going back to Bako.Desharnais for mayor.
I actually hate the Knights. Dont break my heart to see them falter. Same as Leafs, Flames, Canucks, Ducks, Kings.Honestly the Knights seem to be entering a bit of a tailspin as well and have some significant injuries. Oilers have the soft part of their schedule and are getting healthier with a major reverse to last years systemic play with Woody.
If the teams in front fall off their torrid pace to start the first half, our goaltending holds and no more significant injuries the division lead could be had.
Just at the time of drafting, we really needed to improve our defence. Things are looking good. Losing Klefbom was a very bad loss. Hopefully Broberg fills that void. I like what I'm seeing. Can u imagine if Niemo becomes an everyday NHL defenceman? Holy shit. Niemo - DeshernaisI mean OK, Broberg is able to play bottom pairing minutes ... Zegras would probably be a 80+ point player here alongside a McDavid or Draisaitl, an even if the logic is "well we need D" ... I mean the haul you could get for a Zegras in that situation would be enormous.

Broberg is much more needed on this team then someone like Zegras. Soft/poor defensively/pp specialists dont help you win in playoffs.
Broberg is the much smarter pick.
