I've said this before, and I'll say it again: Reinhart is going to go 1st overall, much like McKinnon did last year.

Everyone was convinced that Colorado needed D, and Seth Jones was constantly ranked 1st in the majority of mock drafts, up until the month of the draft.

The argument goes that Florida needs D because they're stacked at center, except Reinhart has played wing for team Canada, so it isn't far-fetched that he can do that in the NHL.

I want and hope that I'm wrong, because I think Reinhart is the best player in this draft and would be a great player to build around.

I'm thinking the same way. It'll be unfortunate, but I take Bennett over Ekblad.

The Oilers can't be that stuid and pass on a guy like Reinhart, or can they?

Picking LD would be sooo typical Oilers though lol

I hope the Sabres get SR, don't care about the other teams. I also want another first to pick Barbashev, but with TMs no Russian bias, that's just a pipedream.

Hopefully Toronto wants Ekblad and Buffalo wants Reinhart, and Florida can make that work to their advantage more so than what they can get from Vanciuver

Buffalo trades #2, #39 and McBain for #1

Florida then trades #2 for #4 and Phaneuf.

Florida gets a nice haul of assets and still gets 1 of Bennett, Draisaitl, Dal Colle, Ehlers, Nylander, Kapanen

is the answer jesus

How does Toronto get pick #4 in your scenario?
I don't think your value is off for Buffalo to trade up and if I legitimately thought the panthers wanted Reinhart over everyone else I'd do your deal. I think they take Ekblad though. He fills a bigger need for them and imo is right there with Reinhart as far as potential (I know you think Reinhart is a step above Ekblad and Bennett). So honestly I don't think the move up will be necessary.

I was going to do one but this draft is impossible for me to peg and it would end up taking me 2 hours. I think Barbashev goes top 10 though and McCann goes much later than people thought a few months ago.

With Reinhart, Ekblad, Bennett, Dal Colle, Draisaitl, Ritchie, Nylander, Ehlers, Virtanen, Kapanen, Fleury, Perlini, Fiala (13 players) all projected to go in the top 10 by multiple people, I highly doubt Barbashev goes top 10 (I do like him a lot, though, and stranger things have happened).

If this happens, I would be on the horn with MacTavish immediately dealing Myers for the #3 O/A pick (Not straight up...), or else flipping the #2 & #3 with EDM for an additional pick in 2015 (2nd?)... Either take Ekblad with the #2, & Bennett with the newly acquired #3 - or else just Bennett with the #3, and use the 2015 EDM pick to move up next year if possible.

Just for interest's sake lets say FLA does the smart thing and takes Ekblad 1st...

1. Florida - A.Ekblad
2. Buffalo - S.Reinhart
3. Edmonton - L.Draisatl
4. Calgary - S.Bennett

29. Los Angeles - C.Bleakley
30. New Jersey - J.Dougherty

Now, in my semi-dream scenario...

1. Florida - S. Bennett
2. Buffalo - A. Ekblad
3. Buffalo via Edmonton from Myers deal - S. Reinhart
4. Calgary - L. Draisaitl
5. NYI - M.Dal Colle
15. Buffalo via DET from Ehrhoff deal - A. Tuch

I don't think Perlini or Fiala will go before him. Fleury may because he's a defensemen in a weaker defensive draft but it's a toss up. Kapanen will likely go ahead of Barbashev but it's also a toss up. Virtanen is a wild card. Could go 5-10, could go 10-25.

Tuch is one of only two guys (Barbashev is the other) that would temp me to trade back into the first round.

Otherwise I sit back in the second and grab guys like Glover, Daughtry, Demko, etc.

The lack of Ho-Sang concerns me. I believe he is a top line wing.

Yet a lot of the rankings don't have him as a top-30 player. He's a great offensive talent, but he has bigger holes in his game than some of the other similarly-ranked prospects. I see him as a guy who'll put up points on the PP, but need a lot of zone-start protection at ES. Frankly, I think he probably gets picked in the last five or six picks of the 1st round--his puck skill will intoxicate at least one team--but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if he falls to 35-40.

It is nice to dream. If your dream scenario came true I would not be able to contain myself. I do believe TM will be trying to land another top pick or two and that the main pieces would be Hoff and Myers. Probably won't happen though.

Currently doing a two round mock draft on another forum, this is how the first round went:

1 - Phoenix (from Florida): Aaron Ekblad
2 - Buffalo: Sam Reinhart
3 - Edmonton: Leon Draisatl
4 - Calgary: Sam Bennett
5 - NY Islanders: Michael Dal Colle
6 - Vancouver: Jake Virtanen
7 - Carolina: Nikolaj Ehlers
8 - Toronto: Nick Ritchie
9 - Winnipeg: Kasperi Kapanen
10 - Anaheim: Haydn Fleury
11 - Nashville: William Nylander
12 - Florida (from Phoenix): Nikolay Goldobin
13 - Washington: Brendan Perlini
14 - Dallas: Jared McCann
15 - Detroit: Joshua Ho-Sang
16 - Columbus: Julius Honka
17 - Boston (from Philadephia): Sonny Milano
18 - Minnesota: David Pastrnak
19 - Tampa Bay: Alex Tuch
20 - San Jose: Jakub Vrana
21 - St. Louis: Kevin Fiala
22 - Pittsburgh: Ivan Barbashev
23 - Colorado: Anthony D'Angelo
24 - Anaheim: Adrian Kempe
25 - Philadelphia (from Boston): Roland McKeown
26 - Montreal: Nikita Scherbak
27 - Chicago: Thatcher Demko
28 - Tampa Bay: Dylan Larkin
29 - Los Angeles: Conner Bleackley
30 - New Jersey: Markus Pettersson

I'm up now at 31 and I figured it would be interesting to evaluate who you guys would prefer at that pick. I'm leaning Robbie Fabbri at the moment, other guys available would be for example Anton Karlsson, Brendan Lemieux, Travis Sanheim, Anthony DeAngelo, Nick Schmaltz and Jack Dougherty. Is there any reason I should not go Fabbri here? And even if you agree with the Fabbri pick, still give me your favorites since we're up at #39 again anyway :)
