Frost is more skilled than Thomas. I’m not sure I’d call Suzuki “elite” either. Frost has 21 games played. His and Suzuki’s stats are pretty identical at that point. It’s not Frost’s fault the Flyers wanted Derek Grant 3C over him. I don’t know, being the best player on your AHL team at age 20 is a pretty common trait of future top 6 forwards. See: Jason Robertson.

Frost didn't exactly dominate the AHL.
41g 11-8 19 at ES. Nor if I remember, did he have outstanding phancy stats.
CF 51.12%, CFrel +4.10, SCF 50.14%, SCRrel +4.74, HDCF 47.83%, HDCFrel +4.89
a good season, not a great season.

Want a good AHL season?
2018-19 Carter Verhaeghe 76g 25-25 52 ES
2019-20 Jason Robertson 60g 18-13 31 ES
2019-20 Jack Studnicka 60g 13-18 31 ES (but 7-3 10 shorthanded!)
2019-20 Alex Formenton 61g 19-16 35 ES
2019-20 Josh Norris 56g 21-19 40 ES
2020-21 Phil Tomasino 29g 9-11 20 ES
2020-21 Jack Dugan 37g 9-11 20 ES
2020-21 Riley Damiani 36g 7-21 28 ES
of course:
2018-19 Cooper Marody 58 g 15-30 45 ES

AHL success for a young player doesn't necessarily translate to instant NHL success.

I was bustin chops....agreed he is good.

Habs are 6-0 in the playoffs with him in the lineup. Well worth the 7th...lol.

Armia? If Fletcher got him y'all be screamin' at him.
Armia has had two good playoff runs, but something flukey, 3 SH goals in 20 games, probably not repeatable.
Basically a 3rd line RW. Real good PK guy.

Nice raw stats last two seasons as a Hab, but that may be system, CF 52.67%, CFrel -2.73, xGF 52.15%, xGFrel -2.31, 1.39 pp/60 ES
playoffs: CF 49.22%, CFrel -2.85, xGF 53.87%, xGFrel -0.11, 1.84 pp/60 ES

This is the kind of guy teams overpay based on a good playoff run and find out that at 28 years old, "he is what he is."
He's basically NAK's ceiling.

Gus is having a great run in those 6 games, but because he's highly sheltered, 8 minutes at ES a game and PP2.
Gus is a top offensive defenseman, unfortunately, playing defense escapes him.

People complain about AV riding a hot goaltender:

Julien is fired with a 9-5-4 record, Ducharme had a 15-16-7 record and they sneak into the playoffs.
In the playoffs, they're scoring 2.5 goals per game.
Regular season, Price +0.41 GAA - xG/60
Playoffs, Price -0.57

Who needs a HC? Just find a hot goalie.

GM moves?
6/18 Armia, traded with 4th rd, 7th rd and Steve Mason for Simon Bourque (salary dump)
9/18 Suzuki, 2nd and Tatar for Pacioretty
10/18 Kulak for two scrubs
7/19, Ben Chariot, 3yr/$10.5M
9/12/20 - Joel Edmundson, trade 5th rd pick for rights, 4yr/$14M
10/20, Toffoli signed 4yr/$17M at 28 years old
10/20 Anderson and 3rd for Domi
12/20 Perry, $750K
3/21 Eric Staal for 3rd and 5th
4/21 Merrill for 5th rd pick
4/21 Gus for 7th rd pick

back in 2016, at the TDL, Chicago traded Danault and a 2nd for Dale Weise and Tomas Fleischmann.

When have we last had one of those?

To be fair Connor McDavid took less on his deal too. It still ended up being a really high cap hit & the highest in the league.

I think they initially agreed around $14M a year before he decided to take a less to help build a team around him.

The flat cap changes things but I have to imagine MacKinnon comes in at $11-12M a year range. I can’t see him devaluing himself that much.

McDavid is the high market setter at $12.5M right now.
