I mean, if they are targeting guys like Cutter Gauthier then I’m fine with trading Rossi.
I’m just not seeing a single suggestion from anyone that gives us even a remotely threatening second line next year. I thought the idea was show Kap we're serious about building something? So we just waste another year of his prime where his line is the only legit scoring threat and the entire focus of the opposition? No thanks , either test it down or let’s get serious and make some waves.

Trading Gus because Guerin couldn't help but offer a 40 year old guy on the brink of retirement one more contract is exactly the type of thing Guerin said wasn't gonna happen anymore when he came in. And what's extra crazy is Fleury really only had about two good
months these last two seasons (did I do that right?). All so he can hand over the reigns to a 20 year old that's been pretty inconsistent and unproven so far.

I just don't have much patience left for Guerin. He talks a good game and people eat it up. He doesn't back it up where it matters though.
Zero coherent plan , doesn’t even talk a good game anymore. It’s just bullshit

I'm already getting the popcorn ready for when trading Rossi and Gus too soon backfires spectacularly on him. It's gonna happen.

But hey, at least we got Freddy and Foligno tied up long term. Just waiting for him to re-sign Goligoski.

Yah but aren’t you excited about a 35 year old Perron and some version of Reavoroon?

Reaves! That's another fear I have....Billy trying to trade to get him back. He wanted to keep him because, he was awesome in the lockerroom but couldn't afford it.

Honestly....the Faber win aside.....I am TERRIFIED of the next 2-3 years with BG running the show.

Zucc as a 4m is still valuable. He is vg on the PP, and even if Boldy supplants him on the 1st, as he should(usually... I can see Zucc popping into the 1st occasionally), he will be fine as a setup man in the middle six. Smart, and an excellent passer. He needs to be surrounded by bigger, faster, athletic shooters/two way players. if that ends up being Ohgren, great.

I'm not too sure he is the greatest match match with Rossi, but they are two smart players and should figure it out.

People around here complain about Zucc endlessly. My position is that yeah, he's aging, and has limitations, but he is still miles better than any replacements we have. If the day comes that Yurov, Ohgren, and someone like Heidt supplant him on the top 6 then it will be good news, but right now we've got a dearth of top 9 talent. If Zucc can score 50 points playing away from Kap and Boldy then he's an asset still.
All I ask is that he is off that top line and surgically removed from Kaprizov for 5 on 5. Put him on the second line and the PP.....great. No problem. But Kap got better ES when separated from his buddy.

Yes it’s terrifying , he has bungled everything and his wins have been simple luck. I think he’s the worst GM in our history and it’s not particularly close.

Zucc on the second line is almost as big of an issue as him on the first line. If we don’t have a second line that can push the pace , control some play and score then we are picking 13th again next year.

When they changed the lines with some 10 games to go, Zucc went back on the top line, he and Kaprizov scored a combined 13 points in the four games before the last road trip. That's really good, so your wish doesn't make sense.

It's like 57special said, we'll probably see Zucc up there now and then, typical Hynes to tweak the lines. But in general it's time for Boldy to take that role.

Yah , Kap was on an absolute heater and would not be stopped. You could have put a German shepherd on 4 skates and taped a stick to his mouth and he would have put up huge points being on the ice with heater Kap

Guerin has been on a couple of podcasts, Wild on 7th with Carter and King + Judd's hockey show.

The Judd one was more direct, Guerin said he'll make some personnel changes this offseason...now I'm excited. He also said they all have to be better, even Zuccarello...and Kaprizov too :D

You know where to find the podcasts...

We all know the reason for more than half the grief people spout about Zucc.

This tells you that you need to play Zucc with elite linemates for him to be effective. 63 points in 69 games, he's been great with Kaprizov. Same happened when Zucc played for the Stars, they put him with Benn and Seguin, and he immediately became a ppg player.

But next season his linemates will be less important. Boldy should play on the top line now, he's part of the future and he'll make almost twice as much as Zucc, who will do his job if he can score 40 points. Will probably score a lot of those on the PP, he's still a wizard there.

I believe the Wild may go after Tyler Bertuzzi, who's a UFA this year. He should provide some help on the 2nd line, and he also has that grit the Wild are missing.
Zucc needing to play with elite players in order to produce is not exactly a ringing endorsement of Zucc. Zucc having 2 goals and 5 assists 5v5 when Kaprizov isn’t on the ice makes me question a lot of things. They have to find a shooter for the second line.

Zucc's 7p was half of the on-ice total without Kap. It's the same game that can be played with several players.

Zucc/Rossi on the same line just doesn't work for either player. 5gf (1.1gf/60) is 273 mins without Kap. Both of their stats are much better without each other.

Yeah, it's the fact that he's god awful at even strength, especially at even strength without Kaprizov. Truly a fourth line quality player in that scenario.

Let's quit pretending the biggest valid reason to have a problem with Zuccarello at this point is still Webster. A couple years ago that was the case. At this point, his play is leaps and bounds ahead of Webster, and the fact that Guerin couldn't see that coming and extended him for two more years only compounds the issue.

I would attribute that to Rossi’s game being more about puck possession and cycling. Zucc’s game isn’t about possession. He’s a great passer, but you don’t want him holding the puck longer than a second or two.

#10+Dawes for #13+Gustavsson

Dawes is supposedly a waiver exempt goaltender that we could send to Iowa.

Thoughts?

If Guerin is set on getting rid of Gus because he needed one more year of Fleury, there are worse ways to use his value

I saw that too. I'd take it and run. He has 14 NHL games before he loses waivers eligibility.

Jessie Pierce said she thinks Guerin's top priority this offseason will be to re-build that 2nd line around Zuccarello, at least for next season. Find a UFA player, or by trade, who can finish Zucc's passes, and another guy in the middle. There are some young players in the system, but I'd say Hartman as a start, since they have chemistry.

Whoever said Rossi doesn't work with Zuccarello, you're right. Rossi doesn't work with Kaprizov either. He just isn't what they thought he would be. Doesn't mean he's a bad player, maybe the kid just needs a change of scenery. I'd say that's why a Rossi trade may very well happen.

I don't want someone who can finish Zucc's passes. He needs to start shooting more HIMSELF! I want him to stop passing up a better scoring opportunity (by just taking the damn shot himself) instead of looking for the perfect setup every time and passing it to someone in heavier coverage.....which most times leads to those lovely turnovers.

If BG is looking to make changes simply to find a guy to take passes from Zucc, then we're really #$@!Ed. It sounds like he wants to make moves that could further hurt the team down the road to help a guy (Zucc) who won't even be here 2-4 years from now.

His passes need to stop resulting in turnovers at even strength before we worry about someone finishing his passes. They're not getting through.

I would agree, except the reason we rag on his even strength play so much in the first place is because of how much he gets raved about without reason. Thus we go out of our way to talk about him as a PP specialist who sucks at even strength.

Most of us are accepting his production level at his price. The even strength weakness aside, he puts up decent enough numbers to at least be "ok" at $4m. He's not worth a penny more though, yet we get told we have him at a bargain all the time, when he's anything but. Not to mention his "mentoring"

Yeah, i would do it, but in this year's draft i am less thrilled about moving up three spots than i might be in others. After maybe the top 5, the next ten prospects have question marks, and i can't figure out who is who. Will Buium grow? Is Parekh completely useless defensively? Silayev offensively? Lindstrom an injury prone all tools, no toolbox, etc.
