On the night of the trade deadline the Rangers and the Jets have worked out a blockbuster trade that sends Norris Trophy winner Erik Karlsson along with center Jussi Jokinen to New York for center Brad Richards and defensemen Michael Del Zotto and Dylan McIlrath.

Rangers GM BigBenSF said about the trade, "We had been searching for a guy who would make our defense one of the top in the league, and to add the best offensive defenseman in the NHL is a huge step for us. I would like to thank Brad, Mike, and Dylan for their jobs here and wish them luck in Winnepeg."

Very happy with the outlook of our franchise now, and in the future. We added some great young talent to a Stanley Cup winning core of guys featuring Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, arguably the two best players in the world. We think we are a very deep team that can deploy several different looks, and play any style of game. We believe this group of players can help us bring another championship to the Steel City!

4.4 m in cap space.

Taylor Hall (C) - John Tavares - Nail Yakupov
Henrik Zetterberg - Ryan Nugent-Hopkins - Jordan Eberle
Tomas Fleischmann - Sam Gagner - Ales Hemsky (A)
Ryan Smyth - Eric Belanger - David Clarkson

Ryan Jones

Mark Streit - Dan Boyle
Ladislav Smid (A) - Jeff Petry
Nick Schultz - Justin Schultz

Ryan Whitney, Theo Peckham

Jonas Hiller
Devan Dubnyk

scoring line - John Tavares with two of the fastest, high-energy wingers in the game. With two very fast veteran defenders in Dan Boyle and Mark Streit making sure the puck gets to the offensive zone as fast as possible. All that speed to push the defenders back ought to give JT plenty of room to work with.

two-way line - With RNH and Eberle's combined hockey IQ, RNH shifty takeaways, and Eberle's stick work, the addition of Zetterberg-a veteran, two-way, former Conn Smyth winner-will make this line that much harder to play against. Zetterberg can take the physical play and can take faceoffs when RNH struggles. Bringing up the rear, a top 10 defender in the league, the always physical-Ladislav Smid (see GA/corsi ratings), will continue to anchor the Oilers defense with the young two-way defender Jeff Petry. This group will be tough to beat.

2nd scoring line - All three of these guys are very skilled with the puck. They can shoot or pass at any given time and playing with Justin Schultz (leading the AHL in scoring as a rookie) will give them another option in the offensive zone. Also, Nick Schultz is a very underrated shutdown defender who can clean up some the garbage coming the other way.

shut down line - Belanger, a somewhat underrated faceoff man, with two very chippy wingers in Smyth and Clarkson. Provided they have success with the dump and chase, these guys can wreak havoc in the crease as well.

nets - size vs. skill...Jonas Hiller is a very underrated goaltender. He has a very quick glove and is capable of stealing games he has no business stealing and dominating under high pressure (see Swiss vs. Canada). Dubnyk is a young positional goalie with enough size to get it done. He can easily win you games if you can score a few goals and can occasionally give the opponents absolutely nothing to shoot at for a full 60.

PP - Deadly. Each of RNH, Hemsky, and Schultz can essentially run a powerplay unit single handedly. Smyth or Clarkson can provide ample screens and garbage goals. Eberle and Hall are too tough to beat if you give them space, and Yakupov seems to be able to score from anywhere. Throw in Jon Tavares and Henrik Zetterberg and Dan Boyle for good measure.

PK - Zetterberg, Clarkson, Belanger, Smyth, N.Schultz, Petry, Smid, Streit/Boyle....should be ample for the PK.

Depth - Ryan Whitney is a very good defender, when healthy, and could realistically take a 4-6 spot or sub into the top pair if there is an injury or fatigue and Peckham is always an option if they need another goon on the ice. Jones could get a look for the 4th line, over Smyth, whereas Hartikainen, Paajarvi, Lander and Fedun and Teubert are available for call ups.

Chris Mason ($1.500m)

Buyouts: Hannan, Mcgratttan, Spaling, Gill, Gaustad

Line 1: Primary Scoring: Here I expect most of my offense to come from this line. I do not expect anyone to be scoring 30+ goals but they are not going to be pushed around nor will they be defensively unstable. Should play a good chip and chase game.

Line 2: Secondary Scoring: Again like my first line chip and chase but not defensively liable. Should see some great two way hockey.

Line 3: Shut down: Sole ability is to shut down top lines. With big bodies and defensive specialists in Hanzal and Kulemin and a big body in Clowe it should make for a hard to play against line.

Line 4: Sheltered Scoring: Should see limited time more or less just a chance for rookies to get some ice time while not being counted on as much.

1st Pairing: Really do I need to explain this? Shea Weber a Norris Nominee and a blooming young stud D man in Tyler Myers by far my favorite part of this team.

2nd Pairing: Good puck moving line in Johnson and Ellis. Should be a threat when on the ice.

3rd Pairing: With the depth this game has come to I pushed Luke Schenn down to the 3rd pairing with a young player in Klein another player who should be in a top 4. But hey I am not complaining. Should make for a good combo of puck movement and defensive play.

Goaltending: Rinne is in net need I say more? Constant threat to win the Vezina along with a proven backup in Mason.

Waive/Buyout/retire(Hejduk):

Comeau,McLeod,,Ryan Wilson, Hejduk

1st Line- Goal scoring skill. This line will be almost impossible to stop. With Gabrorik and the 50 goal scoring Perry who also is good defensively. by his side Duchene will breakout and this line will be dominant.

2nd Line- Stastny has been a PPG player multiple times before. He was an elite play maker when he was younger and with 2 two-way goal scoring wingers, expect him to become a top player again. He is feeding passes to Patrick Sharp and Marian Hossa two great players.

3rd Line- This is a line that can do it all. Dave Bolland is one of the best two-way players in the game and he is centering 67 point winger Paranteau and Speedy goal scoring winger Marty Havlat. This line is a force that can play every style.

4th Line- This is my personal favorite line. If i was a player on the other team and I was getting out on the ice and saw Steve Downie and Steve Ott out there, I would probably be scared to touch the puck that shift. These are two of the best grinders in the league both capable of scoring goals as well. Jagr is paired with them so he can provide scoring and be protected since he is old.

Extras are R.J Umberger and Jamie Mcginn both good defensive players capable of 20 goals.

1st D-pair- A young stud like Erik Johnson partnered with one of the best in the league Brent Seabrook is a great combination. Really loving this pairing.

2nd D-pair - This one is my favorite. The offensive Dmitry Kulikov paired with a defensive Marc Staal. Both of these players can be 2 way D-men and they are both very young.

3rd D-pair- These guys will score points and then score more points. Liles and Carle are both good defensively as well.

Ryan O'Byrne is a great injury replacement, very solid DFD.

Goalie- Cam Ward is an elite goalie. He won the Conn Smythe and Stanley Cup before so he is proven in the playoffs. The veteran Giguere will back him up. Giguere played like a starter last year so backing up Ward should be no problem.

Our forwards speak for themselves. Schenn-Turris-Read is our FIFTH line.

On D, OEL is our rock with amazing depth behind him.

Lehtonen is a great, under-rated goalie, and Lehner is a stud prospect.
