2nd Round Pick in 2019

MIN gains a good 2 way forward with penalty killing ability and can chip in offensively, a goalie with NHL potential and good size/hybrid ability to add to their depth, and a 2nd round pick in 2019.

TOR gains a power forward with good size, and skill.

The Wild don't need a backup goalie. They have Dubnyk as their starter, and he loves a heavy workload, plus Stalock and Hammond as backups already who both played well when called upon.

So why would they take a downgrade for a 2nd rounder when they want to compete?

Please, please, start considering the other team when making proposals. You are making all Leafs fans look bad with all these "3 quarters for a dollar" threads.

How to create Leaf's proposal

Choose 3 of:

Brown, Kapanen, Johnsson, Leivo, Carrick, Pickard, Sparks, Leivo, Pick

Choose 1 of :

Single piece of more value.

It's a very loud minority of Leafs fans doing this. If you look, you'll notice 4 of the first 5 people to reply to this thread are Leafs fans saying (emphatically) that Minny wouldn't do this deal. Please don't paint us all with that brush.

You're right the Wild don't need a back-up goalie. They need a starting goalie. Dubnyk is 32 now and doesn't seem to be aging well. He hasn't won a playoff series in 3 years. His SV% is on the decline too. Hammond won't be a proper replacement. Stalock is ok, but he is not Dubnyk's understudy. Sparks is your guy.

This guy gets it.

All those years of watching Minny fail in the first round I thought to myself, you know who this team needs? Garret Sparks.

You only get one chance at fleecing another team like this. Minny should pull the trigger. Yesterday.

No reason trade Coyle for Brown. Also Wild has Kahkonen coming to AHL, who had similar stats to NYR Georgiev.

Also TOR-MIN trade threads never go anywhere.

How many years has it been since Frederik Andersen won a playoff round?
What was his SV% last year, and how did it compare to Dubnyk's?
If Sparks isn't replacing Andersen why would he replace Dubnyk?

If the Wild were looking to trade for a potential future starter (there's no indication that they are), and if they thought Sparks could be that guy (and there's no idication any team does), then they could trade a simple pick for him or even grab him off waivers near the start of the season.

Their team needs are not being addressed. Minnesota is a consistent playoff team looking to get over the hump to be a contender. A pick, a downgrade at forward, and a 25 year old goalie with 17 games NHL experience sure doesn't put them over the top.

Coyle would be a great add but that package won't get it done.

It's not even a free trade agreement. A free trade agreement is where two parties agree that any commerce conducted between their regions/nations will not have any tariffs or quotas. Calling this a free trade agreement is like calling the Rick Nash trade "The Treaty of New England"

Oh and it's a terrible hockey trade, which is a pretty clear pattern for this OP.

If Sparks if the difference between annual first round exits and deep playoff runs then we aren’t giving up nearly enough here.

Can I interest you in like Greenway or Brodin or something?

The Wild don't need depth or backup goalies. They need a top 6 RW. Ideally moving one of their existing LW's to get it done. There's no point at all in downgrading their only right shot forward in order to obtain a possible backup goalie and a late 2nd.

HFBoarders would be ever so lucky if Kapanen and Johnsson were such easy trade-fodder.

Charlie Coyle doesn't get it done
