Guerin is trying to lock up depth players that have been successful in their roles for low aavs by giving them term to get through the buyouts. Either that or go bargain bin shopping for depth that might not workout every year.

I find him to be pretty terrible

He has been surprisingly good this year, solid defensive play and he is quick enough to get shots off. He has been gifted some easy opportunities with MNs forward depth providing a lot offensive zone time and teeing him up often, but no complaints at that price point and easily moveable if needed. I believe his pairing with Kulikov had the highest xGF% in the league through the first 20ish games.

He’s been solid anchoring MN’s bottom-pairing. Rarely makes mistakes. Can’t be upset with that cap hit.

It's not odd at all. The AAV is solid and you don't fall off a cliff at age 30. There are many players who produce well from 30-35 and he's only signed till 32. This is a value contract for the Wild and they can pencil in a bottom pairing spot down for 3 years.

I wanted the Habs to re sign him vs signing Savard to a $3.5M AAV for 4 years. Basically getting the same production from the two of them.
