Dobbs looked great when he came in on short notice to the point O'Connell had to feed him the playbook through his headset.

And then somehow, the more time he had to learn, the shittier he got.
Likely an indication that they gave him too much, and not simple. I know you don't want to keep doing it the way they were when he got there, but you don't need to fix something that was working until you have to.

The other challenge is if you keep running the simple stuff your next opponent will watch the video and pick it apart. You can get away with this stuff when a defense has never seen it before. Maybe Dobbs could run a more complex offense better if it was something he wasn't learning on the fly midway through a season.

Hopefully, he's going to earn a real backup job where he can sit and marinate in one system all off-season.

Even if that happens, most of all you need your quarterback to be comfortable and functional. Add things in once they are confidently managing the offense.

When the Eagles won the Super Bowl, even though Nick Foles knew the offense, they prioritized the schemes and plays he was most comfortable. We know how that ended, but that wasn't how it started.
