And 3 years is perfect, hell I would even give him more than a $1M at this junction. It appeared during the playoffs he finally figured out he had last change at home
Agreed. His coaching went up considerably during the playoffs and I'd venture as far as saying he out coached both Roy and coach Q during our two series. If he can build off that success and grow even more over the summer and extend that to regular season success and playoff success it will show he's finally reaching genuine maturity as an NHL head coach.
Small sample size in the playoffs can be huge one way or the other.
That's very true, and that's why I'm glad it's only going to be three years. Means if for some reason these playoffs turn out to be a huge outlier, we can still walk away from him if needed.
That said I seriously hope GMCF imposes the requirement that he brings in a proper special teams coach. If Bruno was supposed to be the one responsible for the powerplay then either he screwed up or Yeo stepped on his toes a little too much. Either way, we need a powerplay specialist.
I'd also like to see Yeo take a page out of Roy's book and practice extensively with a 6 on 5 setup. Roy really took the Avalanche to a completely other level near the end of the game by coaching the hell out of that, and a lot of their success, especially their wins in games 1 and 5, can be attributed to that. We need to practice both sides of 6 on 5 because we are terrible both with our goalie pulled and the opponents goalie pulled. Yeo also needs to learn when it's appropriate to pull the goalie.
All in all I can see a lot of growth from Yeo as a coach this year and I am looking forward to seeing what this team looks like next year when the regular season starts.
