Backlund wasn't likely to get much more money and/or term at his age. He's still playing great, but at his age guys can fall off extremely fast, and teams are cautious abut that. Same reason Zucc just signed a similar deal win Minnesota.

I very much doubt this was Backlund taking less money to set an example.

I do think he left money on the table. Certainly another team would have paid more, imo. How much is up for debate I guess, but I don't have any problem seeing it.

Backlund was the bright spot for me last season, glad to see he's back.
