So an interesting article in the LA Times. But something to keep in mind heading into next year.

Lombardi said he was told the salary cap, initially projected to rise to about $71 million next season, will be significantly lower because of the recent weakness of the Canadian dollar. Lombardi said he verified that through the league.

We found out, to our chagrin and surprise the other day, we had been told the cap was going to be $71 [million] and now with the Canadian dollar having tanked, that the cap could be as low as $68 [million]. That's a huge swing,"

If true this is really bad news for the Hawks and some other teams, we should be fine given our current structure, but maybe this does impact Legwand or other plans.

I don't think this will effect the Wings negatively in any way.

If we use some rough RFA estimates Dekeyers (3 mil), Tatar (1.5), Sheahan (1.25) and assume that we compliance buyout Tootoo & trade Kindl along with calling up Mrzaek and Marchenko that leaves us with 14.5 mil to work with all 20 required roster spots filled.

This may actually be a great thing for the Wings as they may finally be able to take advantage of cap strapped teams vs being taken advantage of.

I think Tatar will likely be closer to 2M, Sheahan at least 1.5M.

Playing around a little with Capgeek and this wouldn't really be a big issue. The biggest issue would be roster spots.

Re-signed Allfy and Legwand for their same cap hits, waived Ferraro, Callahan and bought out Tootoo. The forwards look pretty good but our D is the same.

Henrik Zetterberg ($6.083m) / Pavel Datsyuk ($7.500m) / Daniel Alfredsson ($5.500m)
Johan Franzen ($3.955m) / David Legwand ($4.500m) / Gustav Nyquist ($0.950m)
Tomas Tatar ($1.750m) / Riley Sheahan ($1.500m) / Stephen Weiss ($4.900m)
Justin Abdelkader ($1.800m) / Darren Helm ($2.125m) / Tomas Jurco ($0.709m)
Joakim Andersson ($0.733m) / Drew Miller ($1.350m) /

Niklas Kronwall ($4.750m) / Jonathan Ericsson ($4.250m)
Danny DeKeyser ($3.000m) / Brendan Smith ($1.263m)
Brian Lashoff ($0.725m) / Jakub Kindl ($2.400m)
Adam Almquist ($0.605m) /

Jimmy Howard ($5.292m)
Petr Mrazek ($0.595m)

BUYOUTS
Carlo Colaiacovo ($0.000m)
Jordin Tootoo ($0.000m)

SALARY CAP: $68,000,000; CAP PAYROLL: $66,233,712; BONUSES: $410,833
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $1,766,288

Adding the youth this year and knowing they fit has really helped up for the next few years cap wise. They are all still cheap and can play a third/second line when needed.

If the cap does go down this could end up being a blessing if a team was in need of shedding some cap space and a Dman could be swapped with Kindl to give us an upgrade. Though I predict with the trade deadline past and Kindl knowing he isn't going to be dealt is going to look great when he gets back in the line-up. Yes I"m the last Kindl supporter around and may have blinders on.

Even I as a long member of the Kindl fan club and an avid defender have had to leave so good on you Probertrules. I still think he will find his game somewhere else, I just don't think he will under Babcock. I am discouraged at how his physicality dropped back down after he got that contract, he does have the hottest wag on the team though so I get that he is distracted.

Do your calculations take into account the 2M or so carried over from Alfie's 2013-2014 cap hit? I think it's ~2M.

We are pushing Alfie's bonus of 1.5M to next year right?

So 2.5M - 3M will be 4M-4.5M

The cap hit is being pushed, not the actual dollars. And Alfie will want the same amount to play another year. I think he should get it.

The biggest issue is fitting our embarrassment of riches at forward on the roster in some way, shape, or form. The Org will have to pick between Legwand and Weiss, they aren't keeping both. That's about it. This will affect some of the teams up against it.

Why does the org have to pick between Legwand and Weiss. Can't any of the centers be moved to wing.

They'll probably use both at first. But if Weiss ever puts up a decent stretch of games, they should look to move him.

That very lineup Is what I see Happening David Legwand will be resigned with his $4.5M caphit and so will Alfie be resigned for his $5.5M caphit and Almquist will be added as the 7th Dman Tatar will get about $2M a year on his next deal and Sheahan will get about $1.5M a year on his next deal I agree that the Wings should be in fine shape.
