This article aged well...what was Hutchinson's save percentage in game 7 today? Just when you thought his name rhymes with Clutchinson...:sarcasm:

Kevin McGran probably gets his content from HFboards. If he doesn't, he would fit in well here. Two good games and maybe he wasn't so bad after all LOL

Imagine getting paid to write that

Can’t believe the article is from the star.

haha.

were you fooled into thinking that ANY media source concerning sports (or any other "news") was a legitimate source? Especially in 2020?

The joke's on you and everyone else who reads "the news" no matter what type of "news" it is. The Star, The Sun, Washington Post, The Globe and Mail, CNN, Fox, CBC and the hundreds of others I forgot... it's ALL the same sh-t

If you think that Hutch wasn't the problem when he was here than it's either; 1. you didn't watch the games; 2. you don't know hockey; or both. Hutch was terrible here because of his play, plan and simple. He played well enough on the Avs, Has the leafs d-core been so exasperated that we no longer hold goalies accountable to a least NHL level backup goaltending? Hutchie sucked here because of his own doing, plain and simple.

When Hutch is in the AHL or in Europe next season, I want to email that reporter with a link to the story and ask what he thinks now. If Hutch is as good as he tries to make him look, then NHL teams will be lined up to sign him right away

All 3rd period and OT I was screaming at the tv for Dallas to SHOOT.

Dude will whif or give up a juicy rebound at the worst moments from anywhere.
I won't lose any sleep over Hutch being in Colorado and for what he is there, a 3rd string goalie, is just about right.

The only thing you should learn from Hutch winning a playoff game is that the 3rd string goalie still plays sometimes.

It's not a bad idea to have a 3rd G who can pass in an NHL game. That's what Hutchinson is, and that's what he did.

Shocker. Journalist risks his reputation on Hutch and loses.

The reason backup goalies are backup goalies is because they arnt consistent. Starters are usually solid and have the odd bad game/amazing game.

This guy was doomed to fail though simply due to the bad narrative that Toronto apparently has a D system so bad that no goalie (outside of the elite Andersen) can look good under it. The combination of Andersen having an off year himself (and somehow becoming an all-star in his worst year in the league), Torontos D having solidly improved and secondary scoring drying up has really confused the hell out of the supposed "experts" this year. Really looking forward to next year with a full year under Keefe and even average goaltending and then journalists will be wondering how Toronto got so good defensively like the morons they are.

All I know is that Toronto was consistently near the bottom of the league in 5v5 Expected Goals Against/60 under Babcock (crap defensively) and 10th! for fewest expected goals/60 under Keefe. Thats a pretty dramatic shift, about as dramatic as our team save % being in the toilet compared to previous years.

The better team lost. It happens in hockey. Avs were clearly much better skating and skilled team but trap hockey can win games. Congrats to Stars! They will lose in 4 to Vegas. Either way Avs were gonna lose too.

Goaltending is always a reflection of the defense core in front of them and the system their team plays.
This was the series you said Dallas was winning because of their defense first mentality, right? This was the one you broke out your "defense wins championships" cliche for?
