Be it as it may re-signing him does not make him untradeable. If there is an appetite to he can still be traded is all im saying.

Yes, I agree. It would be great if our GM had an appetite for many things that he just doesn't have one for.

I'd say it's better for Mete.... and the organisation, short-term and long-term.
Last year, Mete was sent to the WJC and it helped him out. Joël Bouchard was among Team Canada and commented Mete's selection on the roster. TVA sports had published that video back then Victor Mete se joint à Équipe Canada junior - TVA Sports
In French, but you can see his "highlights" and all he did in these videos were turnovers/give the puck away. It was time for him to have a "break". He was good on the junior tournament and he played better as he came back.

Now, I guess he's supposed to be offensive. He's got great speed, seemingly good vision, but can't score. Smallish so loses puck battles.

I kind of see him, because of their size, like when Montreal had Yannick Weber. (NOT Shea)
They have different skillset, as Yannick Weber's shot was low and heavy. Mete... pretty non-existent shot.
I really like Mete and he has great tools... but he just needs to know how to apply them better in the NHL.
I kind of wish he didn't have to "go down", but if he has to be in the AHL for some time, it'll help him in the long run.
We'll trust Bouchard to help him out.

If he can get stronger, he might be able to be fine defensively and thus wouldn't need to put up points.

I really like his speed both getting back/retrieving pucks and moving the puck forward/jumping into the play.

Just my opinion, but if you are a small guy, you either better be built and play like Cubes, or you better put up some points.

Cube played in a different era. imo, Mete could add muscle but not get to Bouillon's physic and still be a Bouillon type dman for the new era.

I'd rather prefer Mete to become another Torrey Krug or a lesser version of Samuel Girard.

Sure that would be ideal. But Bouillon, IN HIS PRIME, was a heck of a mobile defenseman even though he was small and non-offensive

I don't think Mete will be much like Cube. FB couldn't rush the puck like Mete can. Hoping Mete can get stronger without sacrificing his insane speed. He's still quite young so it's very possible. I think if he can do that and learn to score/work on his shot enough he can be a fantastic top 4 D. He obviously won't grow a slapper of any consequence but he can easily score like Markov did with his sneakiness.

I told you Mitch.. Remember I told this already Mitch?

I'm not a huge PM fan but it doesn't take a genius to suggest that Mete should NOT have made the team last year. Either way, PM was right about this though, like him or not.

I just hope Mete's confidence isn't completely shot. Development does get altered because of this whether we like it or not...his confidence is probably at an all time low, but we'll see how it goes.

Mete doesn't have Krug's shot. I think Mete has outstanding passing skills though and obviously elite skating. He needs to be a transition guy/playmaker for us.

And, he definitely needs to work on at least a wrist shot. He's a guy that can get close to the net and he needs to finish off back door plays and not just create them.

Wow... Finally.... But what does it mean for the Habs D situation ? Reilly back in the line up for sure.

Mete needs icetime, confidence, score some goals, play PP, etc... he is not a lost cause at all.

So who's left ?

Weber
Schlemko
Reilly
Petry
Kulak
Benn
Ouellet
That list is just so bad...

As for Mete, good call. Let him play some big minutes down there, he'll have a job waiting for him here.

You would think a shot could could be taught, doesn't appear so though.

I don't mind this move but he already spent the whole season in Montreal last year. I don't see how Mete is any worse than Ouellet, Benn and Schlemko.

It screams desperation. That's Julien for you who constantly overplays these guys over Reilly and Mete. They are trying to make Mete into something he is not, a defensive D. As if the team doesn't have enough.

Mete is stalling. His 4 assists this year surely did not help him but I would put Mete way ahead. Kulak is a 6th or 7th D at best but they will play him with Weber. Brilliant. Needs more Ouellet, Schlemko and Benn, the turnover specialists.

I'd love to give some of those guys the round peg square hole test. We've been failing at it for years.

There are exercises to strengthen wrists though. I'd get on it if it isn't already part of his training regimen. It's really very old school so I'd be surprised if it is new to him.

Does he have a terrible shot or does he lack confidence to shoot? He's obviously going to be much faster than many of the players in the AHL, he will have more time and space and he might want to shoot more. I always see him being apprehensive in the NHL, he seems not to want to shoot from the point.

Yes very true but most of his shots have been very inoffensive when he does have a lane. I can't say I've liked how we've used him however. If we aren't going to give him second wave PP and keep playing him on the right side and don't allow him to become an offensive dynamo; I think we've wasted a draft pick.
Maybe he can play that instinctive game in Laval.

I don't mind this. In the big picture, I would have wanted to see him in the ahl at the start of the year.

Actually, I really liked his game recently. He was playing with no hesitation, and that's what I want to see from him in laval. Build on it, and make it instinctive while playing in an environment where his development is more paramount than winning hockey games.

He is capable of creating enough chances that he should be a better producer than he is now. Hopefully when he comes back, his mentality will be that he knows he can finish plays rather than hoping he can finish plays.

So MB had the intention all along this week to waive Alzner and send Mete down to Laval. Why one before the other ? And not on the same day ?
Maybe he was working on a deal to clear a roster spot and it didnt pan out? I wouldn't dwell on it too much.

When do we see another press conference?

As soon as the GM comes up with a new intangible that is lacking. :sarcasm:

I don't get this quote by Julien:

TRANSLATION: "What he brings offensively, is extraordinary, however, defensively, he has a lot to improve upon." This is why Victor Mete was sent to the Laval Rocket, explained Claude Julien.

« Ce qu’il apporte offensivement, c’est extraordinaire, mais défensivement, il a encore beaucoup à améliorer. » Voilà pourquoi Victor Mete a été cédé au @RocketLaval, a expliqué Claude Julien.

49 games in 2017-18: 7 assists
23 games this season: 4 assists

This is what Julien calls "extraordinary"? :amazed:
