The thing about this comparison is, as many people have said, I can picture McDavid scoring another goal like this one again in the near future.

I really can't see Eberle scoring another one like that again (especially since he was PKing for some reason ).

McDavid had the better goal. Eberle had the more memorable one.

I voted Eberle because I think it was more memorable and actually required as much or more skill. I love the toe-drag and it was the sexier goal because it was his first game, short-handed, against a hated rival Calgary in the first meeting of the season.

I'm a little surprised that Ebs' goal is polling close to 60% but it's my choice. Don't worry, McD will have many more highlight-reel goals.

Actually, my favourite all-time goal is Gretzky's overtime tally in Calgary where he scored from the left circle and gave his stick to the young fan in the crowd wearing the Oilers' jersey.

Mcdavid goal, and easily.

Reason I say this is McDavid could replicate the Eberle goal and theres no way Eberle could score the McDavid goal.

Connors goal required a degree of acceleration, speed that Eberle just doesn't have and he beat more people within a tighter area. Due to Connor being able to create separation with other worldly pace this allowed him to put the breaks on before the final bit of wizardry beating the goalie.

If Eberle had made that play having to slow down would've allowed back check to interfere in the play.

Also, on the Eberle goal defenders were fairly standing still so that it was situationally a gravy play for Eberle. In the McDavid goal his fantastic speed made defenders look like they were standing still.

This as well. Eberle has had that magic goal and has had nothing of that brilliance since.
McDavid, imo, has had multiple goals of that nature already in his scant 14 games.

Not even that, McDavid has been robbed multiple times as well. I swear half the save of the year candidates were on McDavid.

Oh? And which D do you have setting up McDavid with an off-the-boards breakout pass? Schultz? ;)

Not sure I get it.

It was a routine pass up by Eberle on what was going to be a nothing play until McDavid single handedly beat 4 Columbus players.

Thing is the goal is all McDavid, not sure how that could be disputed.

I don't see it being a brilliant pass by Eberle and Draisaitl makes 5 quality passes like that/game that are hardly even noticed.

I was just referring to that brilliant "how dare he" piece TSN produced about the Eberle goal, while mocking our current D's inability to produce a breakout pass.

Without a doubt, the degree of difficulty on the McDavid goal was much higher.

Thanks, never saw the TSN piece. That's a station that could be broken on my remote and I wouldn't notice. Only thing I watch on TSN is CFL.

Yeah, its strange how people figure the Eberle goal was nicer.

albeit I think that's the wrong question. That breaks it down to simple eye candy rather than looking at whats required to score each goal.

Speaking of TSN pretty much any NHL game they ever show is blacked out in Edmonton. Why do they even bother having 5HD stations for TSN on Shaw. Its always either duplicate programming or blacked out. I could see it being different in one of the Canadian cities in which TSN has some broadcast rights but it makes no sense for those stations to be here in Edmonton.

1) Eberle was a 2 on 1, nice toe-drag and undressed the goalie.

extra credit - 1st NHL game, shorthanded, beating flames

2) McDavid was 1 on 3, incredible dekes with instantaneous puck recovery, and undressed the goalie.

extra credit - first game back after 3 months.

My vote is McDavid because of the extra defenders

I rarely watch TSN, but this piece is probably the best thing they've done in ten years.

heh, thanks, when you get my age you don't even remember stuff 5yrs ago like that. I remembered the goal well enough, but not the comedic routine which I actually had seen before. Team played it pretty well.

Oh my god, I forgot about Jack Michael's call of the goal. So brutal. I stopped the video as soon as I heard his voice.

McDavid's goal might be one of the nicest goals I've ever seen. Seriously, how many players in today's NHL can skate through a team's defense like that?

McDavid's was the harder move to pull off and more impressive goal.

Eberle. His first game. First goal. On the PK.(!?) Toe drag around the sprawling dman, backhand shelf on kipper and our biggest rival all time. Not even close for me.

So many Oiler fans have wanted to trade Eberle for the last five years. Newsflash: trading the Oilers best player will make them worse ten times out of ten! Eberle is untouchable and whoever wants to trade him is the worst GM in history.
