If he really wants $14m, he'll get it.

I doubt it though. Take a little less and give the team some more flexibility. I'd guess 8 x $11.5m.

Already the best player in the NHL and will be the best player for probably the next decade. Could do his team a favor but that's a lot of money he'd be throwing away.

He'll get 14 x 8 and the oilers will be fine.
For those saying he'll take less, keep dreaming. If Bobby Mac and Dregger are hearing it, its from his agent for sure, he's not getting less.

Oilers need to make a BIG push for a Cup this year because after Drai and McJesus get paid...it's going to be much tougher to surround the team with the depth needed to win.

Ya, I don't see him wanting that kinda cake and handcuffing himself and the team from even competing.

I think he will go for 5yrs @ 10M

It makes sense...

I mean this is a different world with a different CBA in comparison to what it was when Crosby was young..

14 M as the ask seems fair. He probably settles for around 12 M which Crosby would have gotten as well the last time around if it weren't for those damn cap circumventing contracts...

Kinda like how last year, it was gonna be like 10 or 11 mil for Stamkos right?

Edmonton might have to pay a little premium tho to keep McDavid out in Edmonton. Maybe that depressing look when Edmonton won the draft lottery was an indication of you better pay me or I leave

He could get 14 but, I have a feeling he will take a $2mil discount to help his team a little.

He will probably get anywhere from 12 - 12.5

Sid was going to take 8.7mil regardless.

as he should... people thinking he would take 9.7 per year are dreaming

IMO it will be 12.125 per year for 8 years (97 million)

I'll believe it when I see it.. Until then I assume he will push back against the NHLPA and take a smaller cap number to help the Oilers fill out roster around him.

My guess is around 8x10.5-12. Unless the cap goes up, you're putting your team in a pretty bad place by taking the max, even if you deserve it.

Any two Leafs rookies won't cost that much coming off their ELCs... Seems like way too much if Edmonton actually wants to win anything.

$14M for 8 years seems kind of high especially if he wants to bring cups to Edmonton. Look how Crosby took a lower salary to keep the team competitive. I see McDavid doing the same so the $11M someone mentioned makes sense.

Crosby took a lower cap hit, he didn't take a lower salary. He has a back-diving contract and at the height of it he was making something like 13mil a year before endorsements.

He's not taking less then 11 no chance. Anyone dreaming of 9 or 9.7 per better prepare for 11-12.5 mil per.
