It took McDavid probably like four games to become the 1st or 2nd most impactful player in the league and he hasn't looked back since.

McDavid is amazing and his going to be totally fine. He's only 21 and has two 100 point seasons. The guy can only get better over the next 8-9 seasons. He will do special things over the next five years, barring injury.

This aged well. How does going 1st to 1st look?

Classic daver.

Classic "bring up a quote from the past that has no relevance currently to make yourself look good".

Was McDavid 11th in scoring at the time of the post? Yes

Did he need to increase his PPG to win the Art Ross rather than everyone else fade? Yes

Would McDavid have won the Art Ross this year with his PPG from last year? Nope, would have finished 5th.

McDavid is going to have to ramp it up significantly next year to return any value on that 12.5mil. If he was getting paid that this year he would not be earning it IMO. That is Gaudreau-Monahan combined money.

Good thing for him that he has the offseason to develop an NHL calibre shot so that he can try and break into the top 50 in goal scoring. Imagine making 12.5mil and not being a top 50 goal scorer. that is insane.

Judging by your complete inability to gauge how contract values actually work, I can already dismiss any credibility you might have had on this post.

But then I have to call you out for your blatant dismissal of actual facts and evidence, so you're you're either a troll or denser than a neutron star.

What he said was extremely clear, it's like you saw he was a Flames fan and went on the defensive without actually reading it.

Actually, no, what he said was not clear at all.

"I feel he has been… underwhelming. Not because he is a poor talent, but because he is not going to be able to deliver the results alone."

That says McDavid has been underwhelming in his opinion because he is not going to be able to deliver the results alone. That's positioned in putting the underwhelming blame on McDavid.

It was then pointed out how McDavid does everything and the rest of the team screws it up. Then it went to "he can't carry the team because the team won't let McDavid carry them." - Which kind of contradicts McDavid being underwhelming for not being able to do it alone. So, McDavid should be able to single handily carry the Oilers with sustain success, although he can't because the Oilers won't allow McDavid to carry them, but regardless of that it goes to show how underwhelming McDavid is?

We now know what the poster was talking about but the original post was not very clear. :thumbu:

That last one should be left out. The league changes year to year. You can't compare what he did last year to how that would fall in ranking the current year.

People were arguing midway thru the season that despite being 10th or so in scoring, McDavid was producing as well as the year before and the players ahead of him were having dream seasons.

That wasn't the case. He obviously needed to pick up the pace to win the Ross.

Last year he had 1.22PPG. He is only 21. You would expect an upward PPG....his year 2 is 0.15+ more than his year 1....so maybe we could expect around 1.35 this season. But he is only at 1.13. Disappointing?
Lol another case of a player reading my thread. I said he should finish year at 1.35ppg. He finishes at 1.32ppg. Nice!

Scoring 40 goals kind of made him not disappointing at all. He's the best player in the league now. More to come. Too bad about Chiarelli though. Edmonton not making the playoffs with that kind of player on the roster is just embarrassing.

yea Chia needs to clean up this mess for sure. I think Edmonton is better than what their record was this year though, lot's of down years and stagnant development from a lot of their players.

This is all people need to know about McDavid

There are only 3 players all time that have won a Hart Trophy by the age of 20, Gretzky, Crosby and McDavid.

There are only 3 players that have won an Art Ross by the age of 20, Gretzky, Crosby McDavid.

There are only 2 players all time that have won the Art Ross twice times by the age of 21, Gretzky and McDavid.

Only 3 players have won the Pearson by age 20, Lemieux, Crosby, McDavid.

IF McDavid wins the Pearson this year, he's the only player in NHL history to win 2 of them by the age of 21.

Had the kept Hall and drafted Connor they could have just outscored everyone 6-4.

Boston is loaded and he’d love playing in that great sports city that offers a lot of things to do.

It would be nice if could get done while Bergeron at the top of HOF game
