Good players score points. Some years they have a high s%, some year a low one. Some years they score more goals then assists, some years more assists than goals. Some years they score more on the PP, some years it's more on ES.

It fluctuates.
This. There simply aren't enough games in an NHL season not to see some statistical fluctuation.

Mcdavid is the best player in the world and is on pace to have the best season of his career this year.

'Mecca' of Hockey
lol, he's had a bad 2 games. Oilers as a team too.

He's still the best in the league, 2 badd games won't change that.

I do however think, McDavid needs to adjust his game a bit. Teams are catching on and he needs to keep teams honest. He can't continually speed up the wing and cut in and out. Teams will put few guys around him with active sticks and frustrate him.

He's still young and growing as a player.

He produces in any situation.

Oilers though, havent scored an EV goal in 6+ periods.

As the best overall player, naturally he's going to be pretty good on the power play as well.
Also you may have answered the question by listing his relative ice time in the two situations.

So funny how he literally lists the answer to his question at the end lol

Is he in his grace period though daver?

The people need to know.

A couple bad games against a good Leafs team doesn’t change that.

Best offensive player in hockey is better on the powerplay than even strength. More news at 11.

Shocking, right?

Arguably the most gifted player to ever play along with Lemieux thrives when the other team has one less player on the ice.

I for one am shocked /s.

When you're the best player in the league and your team leads the entire league in PP opportunities, I would kind of expect you to rack up a ton of PP points. Like no kidding.

No chance. He's good though, just not that good.

The Oilers should just buy him out now so that he can sign a league min contract with the Leafs to playout his twilight years.

I think you could make a case that McDavid is the best he's ever been. His defensive game is much better this year, and it's really just a matter of time before he starts to score more at 5v5

nope just the best PP player (and player in general..) in the world. There’s a reason he plays the entire 2mins on the pp

I mean who else can they even really play on the PP that isn't already on the first unit?

Oddly enough his skillset fits ES play more than the PP given there's less opportunities for breakaways.

I don't get why people care so much where the points are coming

The game score doesn't give a sh** if it was a 5v5, PP, SHG whatever it still puts 1 on the board and at the end of the day McDavid is leading the league by a comfortable margin even after being shutout 2 times in a row

Exactly, he's playing far and away the best two way hockey of his career. I'm glad you brought this up, astute observation and you're a knowledgeable fan we've communicated lots over the years. You know what you're talking about when it comes to hockey, the new avatar threw me off lol

The analytics and advance stats match the eye test along with the raw production. McDavid has been a two way beast. Routinely below the goal line tracking pucks and tying open players up in the middle and down low defensively, it's obviously an area he is putting a concerted effort into.

Despite a couple poor showings on the scoreboard against the Leafs, both games McDavid dominated possession as well SCF + HDSCF numbers at 5 v 5. Some of it was puck luck and guys flubbing wide open chances, along with the Leafs playing pretty stout defensive hockey clogging the middle and forcing perimeter play.

McDavid is just fine and will bounce back. This thread is sure to get bumped when he piles up 5 v 5 points next game (hopefully we don't get shutout for a 3rd straight game -- eeek that would suck).
