I dont think people are waiting for someone of the Leafs to step up and be "the guy".

The issue with how the lines are constructed is that the leafs have one good line and 3 watered down lines.

Leafs cannot go deep in the playoffs with Johnsson-Matthews-Kapanen being a go to line. This line if kept together will be surpassed by marleau-Kadri-Nylander in no time. Which is going to bring on unfair criticism of Matthews not being good enough.

Johnsson is better than Marleau.
Matthews is much better than Kadri.
Kapanen is better than Nylander.

Please explain how Marleau-Kadri-Nylander is better than Johnsson-Matthews-Kapanen.

If you're a stats kind of guy, they had 9 shots, the most of any Leaf line (the other three lines combined for 14).

If you're an 'eye test' kind of guy, I don't know what to say.

Trades needed to make this work:
Connor Brown to EDM for 4th and 6th round picks
Marleau to ARI for a 5th round pick (or to Robidas Island)
Zaitsev to DAL for a 4th and 5th round picks.

Although Marner should likely be around 9M based on Dubas' negotiating plan it will be more like 11M. AJ not going to go for $1.5M so he will get traded. Kappy will be closer to 3.5M. We will get at minimum 1 more defense. We do not need Panarin. We need a better defense much more. And your dreaming on getting Z away for that.
