Talk about hyperbole lmao. If hes so injury prone, what does waiting until next year to let him play accomplish?

Leafs have a total of 1 playoff win without Knies this year. Knies was 100% a key piece to them getting the win over Tampa. And Meier literally had 0 points their first round
Meier is legit scorer worth much more than Knies. If the Leafs value Knies as a long term prospect throwing him back to the wolves to get dummied again by the Panthers goons will turn Knies into a non factor going forward. Knies won't see the ice again it'd be silly to waste his potential right now.

What Panthers goons - rat Gudas and fat, tiny rat Bennet? Tampa had more dirty and dangerous players and there was no talk of wrapping Knies in bubble wrap for that one.

If he's healthy he should go. The notion that a poster here would have a better understanding of injury risk than the doctors and player himself is silly.

The circumstances are different than the TB series. Knies is concussed and would be targeted again. A second serious concussion would put his health in jeopardy going forward. I doubt the Leafs risk his health. We have better options.

Knies should play if he is cleared. His absence has been so noticeable. Hard to believe that he has made that level of an impact this early on into his career, but there has been a very clear void without him in the lineup.

That said, he needs to be 1000000% fully cleared. Zero trace of symptoms. Returning to play this round at the risk of his long term health is absolutely not worth it AT ALL. He is way too big of a piece for our future to be rushing him back into the lineup.

But I do trust the Leafs medical staff to make the right call on that.

They wouldn't clear him unless he's been symptom free for multiple days. He's been targeted every game he's played in the playoffs, I'd imagine as a welcome to the league tribute. The argument that Meier being a legit scorer worth much more is moot when Knies was one of the highest contributors to the team in the TB series (and Meier being a dud in the playoffs so far).

If the kid is cleared to play I would probably play him.

Great that he is back on the ice and not still dealing with symptoms, either way.

Looking forward to Friday night!

Not sure where the title info came from but Keefe this morning said he hadn't skated yet.

Yeah don't think hes actually skating but he was out there handling pucks and stuff (in no equipment), so still a positive sign.

He's either medically cleared or he's not. The notion that he needs to be sitting even if he's been cleared and feels good just because he's young is silly.

What does clear even means in this context?

UFC fighters get 6-month to 1-year automatic medical suspensions after a concussion.

The fact that it's even possible to consider him "cleared" by hockey standards in such a short period is the silly fact here. Nothing to do with his age, everything to do with NHL concussion protocol from 70s. It's not great PR for the league to fully acknowledge how many players suffer from concussions long-term after they retire (some sooner than they would like-recent example Voracek).

Knies need to be smart here. Being cleared by Leafs' doctor during playoffs means very little.

He should have gotten disciplined by the league for sure. As for the Leafs, every game is a do-or-die situation so payback will have to wait until next season.

As long as the Leafs remember and that payback does come in October, I'm okay with them focusing on winning right now instead of retribution and someone getting a major or more as a result.
Hathaway would be a good off season pickup considering we will be meeting these bonehead in the playoffs next yr.

You also have to protect the player.

He has won 2 Art Ross trophys.
one before his concussions and one after.

Won 3 Cups.
One before and 2 after.

He doesn’t play with the same level of recklessness and aggression as he did pre concussions, but I agree, he’s still every bit the player he was before.

I'm assuming that the knowledge of concussions did evolve since the 70s and the exams are done by 3rd party neurological specialists rather than team doctors.

Do you have knowledge to the contrary?

I know that internet access has made everyone an expert on all things medical, from virology to head trauma, but I think it's still more prudent to defer to the actual credentialed experts (I am not one).
