I know people are already discussing this a bit in different threads but I really thought it deserved its own separate thread.

A source told Sportsnet that Matt Pfeffer, who was hired as an analytics consultant at the beginning of the 2015-16 season, made an impassioned and elaborate presentation to management to dissuade them from following through on this trade.

Ignoring Pfeffer’s advice only served to reinforce the notion that Bergevin was following different criteria in his evaluation of both players, said the source, who also suggested Pfeffer’s vehemence on the matter might have ultimately cost him the job (he was told on Wednesday that his contract won’t be renewed). The Canadiens would not comment on why they aren’t renewing his contract, but they did say that they are looking into other analytics solutions.

LMAO and people still think this was a good trade and a hockey move? Keep digging that foxhole deeper! Molson is now fully entrenched in that hole too!

Let's wait and see as I said before. Habs defending themselves saying that they still believe in it and will hire different people...We'll give them the benefit of the doubt on that one. ;)

Getting fired and not having your contract renewed are two pretty different things.

You're just arguing semantics. Of course they're not going to bring back the guy who oppsed the trade and expose it for the farce that it is. That's like firing your accountant because your cheque book doesn't balance out.

Worrisome that they're looking for analytics people that can show them stats that agree with their decisions rather than dissenting ideas that give them perspective.

It may be semantics but the distinction is still important. Using Fired has a lot more punch than saying his contract will not be renewed. Pfeffer is not an employee of the Montreal Canadiens, he is a consultant and as such he cannot be fired. He can only see his contract being terminated or not renewed, much like a hockey player. When a player is not resigned by an organization, they don't say that the team fired the player.

What good is analytics if you get rid of the ones that disagree with you and then hire more analysts that are afraid to speak up?

That's it.
Keep giving them the benefit of the doubt and 1 more chance.
What exactly do they need to do for you to wake up and see the truth.
They have no clue, no plan, and no hope,
They don't care about winning the Cup, only about making the playoffs to save their jobs.
They are under qualified, over indulged, self involved pompous arrogant fools.
Bergevin fired the only guy with enough balls who stood up and told him he was wrong.
Great organization we have here.
Welcome to the Habs Dark Ages, part 2

...I'd like to know what made Pfeffer such a good hiring that he absolutely needed to be back.

Well for one thing, he strongly advised against this stupid trade...

I would've advised against it as well, yet would never even dare submit by candidacy for that job.

So... back to square 1 : What made him such a good specialist to begin with, when he was something of a lone wolf, in a field were firms are about to take control.

Let's not pretend these type of guys are not easily replaceable. I recall that he said Semin could work out because of his low ratio of shots getting blocked or something like that last off-season, other than that I know jack about his line of work.
