Matt Duchene is a fantastic player

Say what you want about attitude, baggage, whatever, but Matt Duchene is a great hockey player, and any team would be very lucky to have him. All of his supposed "defects" are grossly overstated IMHO.

If Ottawa can resign him, then trading Turris and this year's 1st would absolutely be worth it to retain his services.
But does he want to win a cup?

It's a contract year. He's playing for the money. Let's see how he does next year with a cushy long term deal on a new team.

No one ever doubt his hockey skill. Similar to ROR. Every team they go to, the former is happy to see him go and the team they go to fall apart. At some point its not coincidence.

I've watched 90%+ of his career, and this year is the exception, not the norm. He's been amazing, and if he ends up on a contending team that already has a 1c, watch out.

There's still no way to make that trade even remotely good for Ottawa.

I'm thinking he'll end up on Nashville one way or another .

Explain to me what Duchene is doing that makes his entire team suck?
Its nothing he does specifically, but the Avs players admitted he was holding them back. He was begging to get out of loserville only to fall right back into another losing team. ROR did the same with the Avs then Sabres and now Blues. Obviously they are both great players who think they are dealt bad hands, but at somepoint you have to question wtf.

Anyone that plays for Melnyk gets a pass.

Matt Duchene’s Senators score 46.99% of the goals when he is on the ice and 41.35% of the goals when he is not on the ice.

Ryan O’Reilly’s Blues score 63.08% of the goals when he is on the ice and 45.77% of the goals when he is not on the ice.

What exactly are either of these players doing that causes their team to be bad when they are not on the ice?
