Seemed like a no brainer after the departure of Letestu and Dano/Anisimov trade moves.

Need Matt to be the veteran now and keep things together in the bottom 6. 2.2 x 3 is more than I thought he'd get.

That's a lot for a 4th line W when we already have a lot of money being spent on forwards and need to find room for our young guys. It wouldn't be bad if we didn't have some of the other contracts we have.

With the loss of Dano, Anisimov, and Letestu, Calvert may be on the 3rd line + pk.

He is giving up one year of UFA so it makes sense why the 3rd year brings up his AAV though.

Totally fine with the deal. Matty Ice can occasionally step up to play bigger minutes, and he provides a lot in our PK and bottom 6.

Then you consider the likes of Derek Dorsett and Brandon Prust are paid a few hundred K's more.

I just hope he can stay healthy, heart still loses out to mass most the times, hopefully Hartnell can impart some wisdom to him and Jenner about reckless play. I know its part of their style, as was Hartnell's, but he learned that you cant just be a wrecking ball and expect to stick around for a while. Matty's concussions are a concern to me

Love that he's signed, he's one of our best PKers and brings a ton of energy and grit. He helped spark the 4th line last year.

Glad he's back, but I think that Jarmo probably overpaid on this one. No wonder he didn't file for arbitration. Guess it really doesn't hurt in the long run. Would still like to see a move for a defenseman, but losing hope on that.

Dollar and term are good. 4th liners around the league generally don't play 16 minutes a night. He's more than a typical 4th liner. The Jackets and his agent know it.
