Probably because he is dead and his relatives do not want any remindor. That's a common thing if someone dies for their page to get deleted.

Latvian media shared a statement from Latvian federation, which in turn must have been informed by Matiss relatives and/or CBJ. I would imagine CBJ/NHL is preparing their statement more thoroughly.

I heard about it one hour before the press released it here in Latvia from a friend who is on a hockey player whatsapp chat group.

Don't want to give out too much till official release comes out from the team, but it was an firework accident.
