I doubt we'll be players in free agency. We're looking to dump salary, not overpay players. Which is what you have to do to get them as a UFA.

I'd keep Iggy for 4 mil/year max. Let Cooke and Duper walk. Keep Jokinen around and see where he fits into the lineup. And go from there.

Who I want on this team correlates to whether Bylsma is the coach.

If Dan is still here then I don't want Dupuis OR Iggy.
If Dan is gone I want them both.

I posted my lineup before, but I would do something like this:

CAPGEEK.COM USER GENERATED ROSTER
My Custom Lineup
FORWARDS
Beau Bennett ($0.900m) / Sidney Crosby ($8.700m) / Jarome Iginla ($4.000m)
Chris Kunitz ($3.725m) / Evgeni Malkin ($8.700m) / James Neal ($5.000m)
Viktor Stalberg ($1.750m) / Brandon Sutter ($2.067m) / Pascal Dupuis ($3.000m)
Zach Sill ($0.578m) / Maxim Lapierre ($1.000m) / Joe Vitale ($0.550m)
DEFENSEMEN
Paul Martin ($5.000m) / Brooks Orpik ($3.750m)
Kris Letang ($3.500m) / Simon Despres ($0.840m)
Brian Dumoulin ($0.900m) / Robert Bortuzzo ($0.601m)
Deryk Engelland ($0.567m) /
GOALTENDERS
Marc-Andre Fleury ($5.000m)
Tomas Vokoun ($2.000m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $62,126,333; BONUSES: $85,000
CAP SPACE (21-man roster): $2,258,667

Get rid of Glass any way possible and try to see what we can get for Jokinen and Niskanen.

If we can get rid of Fleury, then I would try to do something to bolster the defense with that cap space, because it's kind of frightening even though I have nothing against letting the kids get some playing time.

I hate Maxim Lapierre and don't want to have to stare at his face for 9 months :(

**Posted this in the MAF thread but now thinking this is the right place**

Obviously it's not a lot, but what would it take for the Leafs to get MAF?

Ben Scrivens + JML (3.875M for 3-years)

Not really comfortable giving up real value for Fleury but Liles would probably be your #3/#4 and can move the puck very well. Also would probably be a good fit on your PP. Scrivens is a decent back-up goalie and apparently a great locker room guy. Doesn't really have #1 potential, he has bad rebound control and likes to think he can play the puck like Brodeur.

What you'd be getting is a decent back-up goalie and a slightly overpaid 2nd pairing guy.

I wouldn't be surprised at all to see Malkin's deal get done quickly.

Negotiations Shero and Malkin's agent, J.P. Barry, will begin this week — and both parties are interested in working on a deal in short order.

Malkin reiterated Sunday that he wants to sign a long-term contract only with the Penguins. He also wants to leave the club with salary-cap space to maintain a Stanley Cup-contending roster.

Article also repeats that Dupuis wants to return but is looking for a four-year deal.

If duper wants 4 years then thats probably going to drop his cap hit. Probably somewhere around 2.5m

Which is why that 4 year deal is too much imo

yah i was agreeing with you:)

It makes sense, though, because he'd only be leaving a couple million on the table on a 4 year deal (likely won't get 4-years on the open market, imo) as opposed to 5+ on a 2-3 year deal.

What that article said about what Letang wants is scary, but it's comforting that Rossi was the one saying it.

New Jersey
Letang to Dallas for Loui Eriksson, jack campbell, and radek faska
Buyout fleury
Sign murray, dupuis, Malkin to an extension
Sign clowe, Michael Ryder (said he will sign cheap in order to win another cup)

Eriksson-Crosby-Kunitz
Bennett-Malkin-Neal
Ryder-sutter-dupuis
Faska-vitale-clowe

Martin-despres
Orpik-Murray
Dumoulin- Ufa

Vokoun
Campbell

I wonder if Dallas would trade Campbell. What would they be asking for? He's a great goalie prospect for sure.

Honestly, if he leaves he will get money thrown at him, as for term it won't be that likely because teams may still feel he's a one hit wonder because of the 48 game sked, he hasn't produced that much w/o Sid except for this year. And yeah, he would make more money on a shorter term

I'm honestly not sure if Bennett is naturally a LW or RW. He's played LW all year here with the exception of one game and looked pretty good though. There's really not any free agent forwards that I think would be both affordable and a good fit for us in terms of the top six.

That's basically the exact same lineup...you wanna let Dupuis AND Iginla go in the favor of Cooke and Korpikoski....

The only reasoning I can take from that is that Bylsma is still coaching
