Laval went with experience this time around. Aside from Laperriere, they brought in two guys in Houle and Buchberger who have had a lot of pro hockey coaching experience (AHL and NHL levels). Laperriere has never coached in the pros, but he's coached at different levels for over 2 decades.

Not that Bouchard didn't have experience. His coaching career started in 2008.

But Houle started his coaching career in 2003: 18 years.
Buchberger started his coaching career in 2004: 17 years.
Laperriere started his coaching career in 1998: 23 years.

I like that they went with such experienced people this time around, since we should have a lot of D incoming. Laperriere if he works with the blueliners as I don't know if that's the case or not but that's where we really need an experienced person, not that Daniel Jacob didn't do a very good job at least from the few vids I saw of him talking to the D during games. But with what is likely a huge and highly touted (at least by me :nod::cool:) group of D prospects that aside from any jumping directly to the NHL, by March/April we could have Guhle, Harris, Norlinder joining Fairbrother and Brook, perhaps Struble as well. That's a very important part of our future hopefully (outside of any trades as at some point some will likely be moved) so getting someone with experience is good plus he can always talk to his dad about any of the D prospects that he thinks needs more work and how better to help said prospect.

You would have a point if we were the Devils (where Jasques is currently working), but we're not.
Jacques played and coached for the Habs. Hence his connection to the franchise. Just like Houle’s father played and was Habs GM.

We all know that.

The guy is competent. He wasn't hire because of his father, like Houle wasn't either. Turn the page.

If you're going with such loose links, pretty much every hire we could make from Quebec would be nepotism. Everyone is someone's brother, son, cousin etc.

To me. nepotism is Larry Carrière hiring Nick Carrière or MB hiring people he played with that don't have the qualifications for the job.

Hiring the son of a guy who hasn't been part of the organization for 20 years is not nepotism.

I wouldn’t call Lapeirrier a loose link at all. He’s played for the Habs during the golden years and helped coach them spending decades with the team. He’s alumni and deeply respected by the organization.

So without knowing anything about his son, I was worried it could’ve been nepotism because Habs have done it in the past with Carrier’s kid and dozens of other times.
