Wasn't sure they were going to sign him, but glad they did. He seems to have decent enough potential. It's only 2 years anyways because of his age.

Pretty shocking IMO, seemed like a guy they'd let go.

He's got the good defensive game that management/coaching staff likes, I wasn't sure if he would get signed or not since we could be up against the 50 limit depending on what they do in the off-season. Hope to see him bulk up a lot.

Why...? He's one of our best college prospects and played on a strong team for years.

That's not saying much though since we only had 4 NCAA prospects and one of them was out for almost an entire season.

A better skating Marcus Kruger. Won't be an offensive player in the NHL, but is skilled enough to be a 3rd/4th line center. Will be an above average penalty killer. This kid has an NHL career ahead of him in a defensive-minded/bottom 6 role.

I don't know Kruger well enough to say one way or the other. He's a good playmaker though, not sure what his NHL future is since he's still so skinny but hopefully he can add some mass and strength.

Seems like a good signing. Can he play on Wednesday?

he's out for the season.

Carr's team won a National Championship and he had a better NCAA career but played in the weakest conference of the 3. MacMillan played in the tougher conference.

A better version of ENGQVIST ?

Interesting.

Good skating ?

I remember seeing MacMillan play with Kristo and I liked what I saw.

MacMillan is a center that can play wing, he's fast and a good skater, smart, he works hard consistently at both ends of the ice. He plays the PK and PP, good on draws, good vision, playmaking. Lacks mass, strength, easily pushed off the puck.

Habs have him at 6' 183lbs in that article...

His former coach in the BCHL told one of the NCAA play by play guys that he felt it was the best move for MacMillan to go the college route as he really needed to bulk up and after 4 years he was starting to show signs that he has. Imo he still needs to add a good bit more to his frame and get stronger, would say he's around 6' but still looks on the skinny side.

Wow, 183 LBS, I thought college was a good route for skinnier players to add mass, at least that was the LeBlanc argument. If 183 is him at his top weight, it will be difficult for him to hold down a bottom six role, I think. My playing size was 195 at 5'11 1/2, for soccer, so I wasn't particularly bulky--although I was burly. A 6' guy should be around 200LBS, I think.

Anyway, seems skilled, and will enjoy watching his 'development', although he is already 20 years old.

He was like 140 when we drafted him. He's gotten a LOT bigger in the last four years.

faster, much better two way and I'd say the skill level isn't that far off but it's always hard to compare NCAAers to CHLers. It would have been interesting to see how MacMillan would have done in the dub. Not saying he would have put up the 100+ point season that Holland had but I think he would have done well as in the NCAA his lack of size/strength hurt him as he was easy to push off the puck. It was his effort, smart play, speed/skating and skills that helped him overcome as he is a really hard worker and is willing to pay the price.

It's going to be interesting to see how he does in the AHL, as I think he could repeat the numbers Holland had (and Bournival as they both had around the same points in their rookie year in Hamilton) I didn't think the coaching staff did a good job with the way they handled Holland who clearly was skilled but not someone that was not very effective when used on the 4th line. He was more of a PP specialist that once taken off the PP, didn't do a whole lot. If the current coaching staff in Hamilton is back, the difference is they will really like MacMillan as just about any coach will since he is so good in his own end, is smart, always works hard. Just needs to add mass and strength.

Does anybody know how long is he still injured for? It'd be nice if he could get to 188 lbs for next camp (that's the size of Turris for example).

I've always seen him as a 3rd line player.. so would you say, as you've seen him way more times than I have, if he meets his upside.. He'd look good playing on a two-way 3rd line with the likes of De La Rose?

not sure, you can read about it,

http://www.grandforksherald.com/new...acmillan-have-surgery-listed-out-indefinitely

will undergo surgery Wednesday and will be out of the lineup “indefinitely†according to the school. UND did not rule out a possible return later this season for MacMillan nor did it confirm that he would come back at some point. The school is not releasing the exact injury, only saying it was “lower body.â€

His solid two way game means he could play on the 3rd line. But unlike DLR who already has NHL size and strength, I don't know how he could handle trying to shutdown opposing players as he is easily pushed around. So we'll see what a couple years in the AHL does for him, if he can continue to get stronger then I could see him in a 3rd line role.
