MONTREAL – Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin, announced Sunday the signing of 2010 fourth round pick Mark MacMillan to a two-year, entry level contract (2015-16 and 2016-17).

MacMillan, 23, completed his fourth and final season at the University of North Dakota (UND) in 2014-15. A product of the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL), MacMillan earned 137 points in 99 games with the BCHL’s Alberni Valley and Penticton teams before making the jump to the NCAA with North Dakota.

The Canadiens’ second selection, fourth round pick, at the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, MacMillan recorded 16 goals (a personal high at college level) and nine helpers for a total of 25 points in 29 games, while serving 27 penalty minutes. In four seasons with UND, the 6’ and 183 lbs forward who acted as alternate captain this past season, suited up for 151 games, recording 46 goals and 53 assists for 99 points. He served 107 penalty minutes.

He is the real deal when healthy. Struggled with injuries in college especially this season. With him I think we win the natty, should have without him anyways.

It's a very good signing. Better than some free agents we'd sign.

He's got decent potential, I like what I've seen of him. Hard worker in all three zones and enough athletic tools to be a producer. He could be Bournival with a functioning brain on offense down the road hopefully.

Surprised they signed him but only offered Didier a PTO Contract...
But that is why the scouts and GM get the big bucks, they know much more than we do.

A better skating Marcus Kruger. Won't be an offensive player in the NHL, but is skilled enough to be a 3rd/4th line center. Will be an above average penalty killer. This kid has an NHL career ahead of him in a defensive-minded/bottom 6 role.

A PTO for Macmillan would be pretty useless since he can't play this year as he's injured. Didier had to sign a PTO this year to not burn a contract year. I'd be surprised if he didn't sign a deal.

Team is very good at scouting and developing bottom 6 players in recent years, so there's good reason to hope this is a good signing. But damn I'd like to see an NHL scorer come out of Hamilton that isn't name Gallagher. Wont be this guy. Not on a knock on him.

He needs a contract to play. He either signs with us or with the Bulldogs. Unless I'm wrong signing with us would burn a year of his contract since he's older than 20, hence the AHL PTO.

At this point in the season, teams have the option to sign players to ELC for the current season or starting the next season. See what they wrote in the MacMillan press release (2015-16 and 2016-17).

But Macmillan would need a PTO to play this year, no?
