A fact the youngins on here probably do not know. And his team won an average of 31 games despite him tearing up the league. McDavid's Oilers won more playoff series in his first 2 seasons than Lemieux's penguins in their first 6 seasons.

See, being a tangible loser racking up the points in garbage time is not selective to generational and franchise talents Connor and Jack.

Jack who? There's never been a generational player with the first name Jack.

It's not selective to generational talents, but we're also looking at Lemieux's start to his career through the lens of what he accomplished later on. Lemieux was criticized as a flashy player who you couldn't win with early on, and while, like McDavid, that criticism was unfair, we'll still ultimately need to see McDavid have great playoff succeed in order to be truly fulfill the generational label.

Maybe he is talking about Johnny Hockey. Jack is another way to say John in some places of the universe.
Oh I see, though Johnny hockey isnt generational either. The closest generational player with first name starting with J would be beliveau(though he wasnt close to generational either). The only generational talents are 99, 66, 4. With 87 and 97 being post 90s generational players. 8 and 71 and 68 being close to post 90 generational players.

Actually if you compare his peewee stats between 12:37 of the 2nd period and Connor McDavid's during his tyke 1st periods, you'd realize that Eichel is actually generational. Also when you compare Jack's backgammon rating to how well Auston Matthews does at Fortnite, you'd realize he's easily better than him too. Not many know these facts, but as a regular reader of JackAttack's threads, I've come to learn this. Also compare warmup shooting percentages of the three and you'd realize Jack is probably better than even Gretzky.

Christ the insecurity of some on this site. "See look Mario didnt make it for his first couple years and hes amazing!! Mcdavid can too!"

Anyone with eyes can tell Mcdavid is an amazing, franchise Player.

Who cares if he generational or not. He's doing incredible. Its a matter of whether they can put a team around him to succeed. Can we please just stop debating nothing over and over and over. (I get we're on a hockey forum)

Edit: likewise with Eichel- but he's not as good as Mcdavid (real controversial statment)

I think this thread is a result of people saying "McDavid should demand a trade!"

Considering Pittsburgh did the tank of all tanks to get Lemieux, they were going to be bad for a few years.

It has been proven a thousand times: 1 player cannot carry a hockey team. Beyond a shred of a doubt.

This will not stop people from blaming individuals for not carrying a team. Nor will it stop them from crediting other individual players who had 5 other hall of famers on their teams.

Nor will it stop some insane posters from writing sentences like "I know its not fair, but that's how it is, and so I am now going to write a post based on an argument that I just acknowledged makes no sense."

Lemieux was considered a failure and not a leader until he won a cup so the the same standards apply to McDavid or any other elite player.

Hate to say there was a little something to that.

Look at mario's stats before the 87 Canada Cup.

Then look at his stats after he learned from Gretzky, Messier, Coffey, Anderson and Fuhr.

He didn't put up Gretzky like numbers until he saw firsthand how much effort, dedication, and commitment those Oilers put in to win.

1985-1986 -- 141 pts Lemieux wasn't considered a leader until Pittsburgh won their 1st Stanley Cup.
Just like Steve Yzerman wasn't considered a leader until winning the cup.
Having great individual stats didn't save those two players from being criticized it only stopped after they won Stanley Cups .
