What I don't understand is why our grinders (Dwyer and Brent among others) don't get more PK time. Especially Brent, who was a mainstay on the PK before he signed here (and considered very good).

I've got no problem with J. Staal on the PK given that's how he was used in Pittsburgh.

Me either but Semin asked to be on the PP, Eric as Captain feels its his duty which is all fine if they blocked a shot once in awhile.

Guys like Dwyer and Brent should get more pk time for the simple reason of keeping our big guns rested.

Fine by me to play him there but he and the rest of the PK units have been subpar for most of the season. With all the talk about the woeful PP, the PK is just awful and nearly at the bottom of the league. Clearing pucks, having any kind of physical presence down low, and blocking shots have been glaring problems.

The old standard measure about specialty teams is that your PK+PP %'s should equal 100. The Canes? 90.5. Horrific.

That's true with Brent but Dwyer is on the first PK unit with J.Staal. They're 1-2 in SHTOI/G.

Toronto's PK was a disaster when Brent played there and his personal numbers sucked as well - 8.70 goals against per 60 minutes (for comparison, Tlusty is the only regular PKing forward with worse numbers this year). Not that one player can be blamed for a poor PK, but I don't think he's really going to help anything either. His rep was based largely on a shift that happened to come against this team.

Dwyer does get PK time. Jordan is the only forward who plays more (by 6 seconds) and there's a big drop off from those two to the next forward (Jokinen)

My favorite was when EStaal and Tlusty took turns at the near-side half-wall, cycling the puck to each other while the defense stood there and watched them waste PP time.

Seriously, that was some Mighty Ducks looking ****. Unbelievable.

I'd pin it more on the defense than the forwards. The penalty kill is where a team really gets exposed for overloading on PMD. We have guys on our blue line who couldn't defend a 2-on-1 to save their lives, and the basic philosophy of a PP unit is to continuously create 2-on-1s.

That said, it doesn't help that our goalies have been letting in soft PP goals all season.

Oh man. I had no idea he was THIS bad. And he's not even that good on the PP!

consecutive turnovers in the defensive zone on the same possession reminded me of the "Aaron Ward: Taylor Hall's Biggest Fan" video.
