There's depth already though. Rosen, Borgman, Holl. They've added Kivihalme and there's some UFA's that could help.

It is a depth signing, but if you asked most people 15 minutes ago "would you re-sign Marincin?", there likely wouldn't have been many supporting it.

Rosen will play. Borgman is a lot more questionable than Marincin. Holl isn't much better. Kivihalme probably isn't even NHL ready at all.

Marincin is someone the Leafs know. He's someone Babcock knows. They aren't going to expect some Norris caliber player here. He's there for insurance and to help out with the Leafs or probably the Marlies at some point.

He had a very good World Championships, for whatever that's worth, and has been a good depth player for the Leafs for awhile.

It was either this guy or some other guy that isn't overly good. They will probably add a couple more "Marincins".

People want more size and "defensive defenseman" through this organization he's pretty much everything they want in our depth... and there are still complaints.

Muzzin - Zaitsev

Marincin - Holl

Any game he plays is a game to many. This guy is a player that fits into terrible teams when he was young as some one could he fooled to think he could put things together.

He is a 15/16 leafs, 13/14-14/15 Sabres type player. Hopefully he plays bottom pairing in the AHL and can be loaned to another AHL org so he doesnt get a chance of being called up.

Dubas fix the defense if you want to keep this job long term. With our current defense it's a maybe in making the playoffs with league wide upgrades

Absolutely a huge signing for our rear ends and end. What a steal by 700.000. That's the same number marleau will probably sign with the sesharks. So that's kinda cool.

Marinchin will be a huge asset being that seventh seal of evil. Toronto will do good next season, but we have to sign some true souljas on offense as well sire.

It's june 29th.
And Teams have already started to make moves for RHDs. Subban, Trouba(unfortunately not a option for us), Miller, Braun, Gudas are already off the market.

Dubas not decided what ti did with marner by the draft is screwing us. He should've set the deadlin at the draft and than either openly shopped him or forget about him and just improve the team and let marner leave via offersheet.

Dubas has been way to indecisive so far this offseason. He has 5-6 days before nearly all the options will be gone. Have to hope dubas does something and doesnt run guys like holl, marincin on the team.

What a joyous day!

On a serious note, nothing wrong with adding a top end piece for the Marlies who we know won't be dreadful if we need to call him up.

and the defense is WORSE than last year.

I don't see this team winning a playoff round as is unless Andersen has a .925
Again, June 29th.

This is when teams are at their weakest. They haven't improved via FA. They haven't improved via trades over the summer. No prospect has shown up in camp and looked much better than expected. Calm down and give it time.

I, for one, am greatly anticipating totally unpressured giveaways and puck over glass penalties that Marty "Prevents Zone Entries" Marincin is famous for.

Hopefully hes on the Marlies or the press box.

If we had a GM that rushed a decision on a franchise piece like Marner when he's got all summer, I'd call for his head on just that. Every other decision is inconsequential in comparison.

Holl, unlike Marincin hasn't got anywhere near the amount of games played to show himself. Kivihalme also probably closer than people realize as well. Had a very good season on the best team in the sm-liiga. Also from watching him a bit, he can play on the right side.

It is a pretty inconsequential signing, but I feel it does block some of others due to comfort factor with the coach. If a player goes down, he's much more likely to stick Marincin in than to try someone else.

A lot of people are going to go nuts but I didn't mind Marincin

He's a decent depth defenseman that PK'S, it's a good signing for league minimum just in case we get injuries
