That is the key. If you use the advance stats properly and combine them with all the other aspects that goes into player evaluation such as role, what they bring to the table then you can comment on the fit.

What happens is some people are quoting stats but not understanding why a player was brought in for a certain role.

Polak was brought in for his compete level, physicality and he has provided that. Are his fancy numbers as good as Gunner probably not but that is not his game.

He is the only Leafs D that an opposing forward is worried about going into the corner and coming out with a mouth full of sherwood (yeah old school stick reference for you kids out there). Oh wait Holzer can provide that too but wasn't in the Leafs plans when the deal was made.

So let's always look at the whole picture and not some snapshot of a spreadsheet to evaluate players or moves

His role is not in question. Bottom line, Polak makes us a worse defensive team. Period

Im amazed that people are insinuating that we arent using advanced stats with context, when the stats are there to call for context!

LOL What a joke this fanbase is

Yep. I love the man for coming back after taking that puck in the face, but it doesn't make him a good player.

When he's at his best, he's a serviceable bottom pairing d man. The rest of the time he's a negative for the team.

I don't give a **** how good Polak is, that has nothing to do with what he said. His skill has no bearing on whether what he said was right or wrong. If the problem exists and it needs to be said then saying it was the right thing to do.

You aren't even arguing with what he said, just whether he has the authority to say it and basing that authority on skill level. That is just an inbred way of thinking. It took leadership to step up and admit what the problem is without throwing specific people under the bus and I commend him for having the balls for doing so.

Fanaticism never sees the truth..only what they want to see and hear. Polak isn't even the first guy to say what he said. He is the umpteenth guy to say it. So lets attack his abilities as a player. Its like a criminal lawyer. The prosecution witness gets dismantled, not by what he says, but rather what he wears, who he hangs with and what his history or past is. That's similar to what happens...don't like what the guy says? Lets attack the person.

Because he called guys out and excluded himself. If you're going to do that, you better be the a good defensive player.

Exactly. It's ludicrous.

He had every right to say it, unless a person believes that only the rotten core can comment!

He is also correct.

He really doesn't regardless of him calling the kettle black.

He decides to send a public message to his teammates in the midst of a media **** storm? Where the very thing he is saying is the main topic at hand? You're not sending a message a message or saying anything new. Just throwing fuel on the fire.

He's played 30 games with this team and not very well. Know your role.

Yes, captain obvious is right. doesn't change the fact he's out of line for numerous reasons

Meh...shows some cahonas...some leadership IMO. Yes himself included...but it beats the old "gotta get pucks deep" BS you keep hearing these guys spew all the time.

Perhaps these words needed to be said by the Captain but he seems to only know how to speak in cliches like most brain dead jocks.

He didn't name anybody specifically. He said nothing wrong other than some players only like to play offense. Have you watched the Leafs? Is this actually ground shattering? They are one of the top scoring teams but yet are one of the most scored against teams. Just that alone sums up what Polak said.

News flash...this is not a winning formula. Ever.

Note the title of this thread. Does Polak talking to the media instead of his teammates help?
