Why does that matter? They've had much larger offers on the table but weren't chosen. Recently, Alex Gordon and Tanaka come to mind.

That's the smart approach. The Yankees were a 100-win team. They do not need MORE superstars. They need smart additions, guys that correct some weaknesses (defense and pitching). No need to spend 300M on that, not when guys like Andujar, Torres and Judge will have to be paid eventually.

Machado strikes me as a much more problematic acquisition than Harper. Seems pointless unless he's the missing piece on your way to the world championship.
