Malkin does have one more Art Ross but Kane won his with a bigger margin. I'd say its dead even at worst but I have Kane higher due to his remaining a top player year in and year out where Malkin has lost a step.

Malkin's injuries hurt his case here but I'm still going with him as having a better career up to this point. However, Kane is having a much better season this year and it would be fair to say Kane going forward. But despite his slow start this year, Malkin still finished last season at a 110pt pace and has matched and exceeded all of Kane's accomplishments up to this point in time.

Lot of issues with the bolded.

1. Malkin started off his career way better than Kane. He was a hart runner up in year 2, and won the ross in year 3. Kane's first major award is in year 6 with the Smythe, and his first regular season award/finalist in year 9 where he won Ross/Hart. So even if you were right about Kane ageing better, it's certainly offset by Malkin starting out way better.

2. I actually disagree with Kane ageing better. It's certainly not as clear cut as you're implying. Malkin had a better season than Kane last year, despite being 33 vs 31 for Kane. So i'm not sure saying "where Malkin has lost a step" is exactly fair either. Malkin was better in 2017-2018, Kane beter in 2018-2019, Malkin better in 2019-2020. This year it's been Kane, obviously.

To me this is a very comfortable edge to Malkin still overall. But even if you want to somehow argue for Kane - your reasoning in bold is simply flawed. Malkin's biggest weakness is his lack of full seasons. He probably averages ~65 games a year or so. If you dock him enough points for that, you can probably make a case for Kane.

Voted about the same. Geno had the better peak for sure though. Kane seems to have better staying power. Two great players. Think it's closer than the poll suggests.

It's close, but Malkin. This hasn't been brought up, so I'll just say it- him being a center slightly works in his favor. Injuries take away but Awards bring him back up.

Kane going forward doesn't make up for Geno leading the league in points in two of his cups and the fact he has more hardware than Kane unless the media decides to give Kane a trophy this year.

Pretty wild how similar their awards look. The 2nd Art Ross for Malkin is really the only difference.

Kane:
Calder
First Team Allstar - 3
Stanley Cup - 3
Conn Smythe
Art Ross
Hart
Ted Lindsay

Malkin:
Calder
First Team Allstar - 3
Stanley Cup - 3
Conn Smythe
Art Ross - 2
Hart
Ted Lindsay

1st team all star at wing looks much different than at center.

A yearly comparison might be a better way of looking at it.

Year 1
Malkin - 33 G, 85 P
Kane - 21 G, 72 P

Year 2
Malkin - 47 G, 106 P
Kane - 25 G, 70 P

Year 3
Malkin - 35 G, 113 P
Kane - 30 G, 88 P

Year 4
Malkin - 28 G, 77 P (67 GP)
Kane - 27 G, 73 P (73 GP)

Year 5
Malkin - 15 G, 37 P (43 GP)
Kane - 23 G, 66 P

Year 6
Malkin - 50 G, 109 P
Kane - 23 G, 55 P (47 GP)

Year 7
Malkin - 9 G, 33 P (31 GP)
Kane - 29 G, 69 P (69 GP)

Year 8
Malkin - 23 G, 72 P (60 GP)
Kane - 27 G, 64 P (61 GP)

Year 9
Malkin - 28 G, 70 P (69 GP)
Kane - 46 G, 106 P

Year 10
Malkin - 27 G, 58 P (57 GP)
Kane - 34 G, 89 P

Year 11
Malkin - 33 G, 72 P (62 GP)
Kane - 27 G, 76 P

Year 12
Malkin - 42 G, 98 P
Kane - 44 G, 110 P

Year 13
Malkin - 21 G, 72 P (68 GP)
Kane - 33 G, 84 P (70 GP)

Year 14
Malkin - 25 G, 74 P (55 GP)
Kane - 13 G, 49 P (37 GP)

When comparing each of their respective years in the league, Malkin's been the better player more often. Some seasons are close in terms of points per game (year 5 and year 7) with Malkin missing more time, but there's only been 4 years where Kane was clearly the better player.

Points per game is not nearly as important as actual points. You don’t get credit for missing time. That said it’s probably still malkin for the time being.

Malkin has more hardware by a little, but he was just the better player plain and simple, no version of Kane was as good as Malkin when he was on, thats why I give it to him.

It is pretty close though and the rest of Kanes career may make it even closer

I'll go with Malkin. Kane is great, but I felt when Malkin was at his peak such as the 2009 playoffs, he was the most unstoppable guy in the league. Crosby and Ovi had better careers, but I don't think Kane reached that level, so when its somewhat close I'm going with peak ability as the tie breaker.

Not sure how last 3 years it's not all Kane better. By ppg after missing some games Malkin had what .12 % better? Yet in the playoffs had 1 point in 4 games and Kane was ppg. Was Malkin still hurt? Maybe he shouldn't of played and dragged down a team supposed to be better.

Kane is going to add another top 10 hart, pts and PPG finish this year while Malkin as usual is sitting out. Malkin's 11/12 season is amazing, but Kane's 15/16 isn't too far behind. Both are great playoff performers. Malkin has an extra ross but Kane has 3 more top 10 pt finishes (assuming he gets it this year). That's 3 additional years of your team having top 10 pt production which matters for better career (not getting into goals because they are close enough there). Malkin is probably still ahead but if he continues to miss 20 games every year and Kane does this for even another year, it's going to be hard to keep Malkin ahead.

1st team C weighs a bit more than RW to me. I'd lean toward Malkin here but Kane is aging a little better.
