Let's hear your bold prediction(s), whether it be optimistic or pessimistic.

I'll start:

Optimistic

Athanasiou and Larkin lead the team in points.
Mantha secures a top 6 role by the end of the season.
Wings have 8 players above 50 points (Larkin, Nyquist, Tatar, Athanasiou, DeKeyser, Vanek, Zetterberg, Green)

Pessimistic

Mrazek takes a big step back, Howard is clearly the starter by season's end.
Kronwall finishes the season on LTIR.
Nielson can't find his groove, gets demoted to bottom 6 minutes.
Sheahan has a career low year, cements himself as a 4th line guy.

We miss the playoffs solidly and it's pretty clear we wouldn't belong if we did manage to sneak in. Holland signs more vets to long deals next off-season anyway.

Contend for the division due to strong defensive play.

On a serious note:

Vanek nets 30
Tatar nets 25
Nyquist nets 30
AA gets more than 9 minutes a game.
Howard steals back #1 position

Green becomes Detroit's #1 D.
Mantha goes on a tear in GR, comes on the team late November, never to be sent down again.
Larkin stays the teams #1 C all year-long, potting 56 points.

Optimistic: Sproul is a 40 point defenseman, and Mantha gets serious Calder consideration.

Pessimistic: Neither of them do it in Detroit (Mantha traded for spare parts, Sproul waived for nothing).

It's tough to envision anything bold at the moment, but I'll be hopeful:

Mrazek finally grabs the job for good, and Howard gets dealt at the trade deadline.

Lord, I hope not. Helm belongs on line 3 or 4.

I could almost bet about this.

Big millions = bigger responsibility...

"Whom much is given, much is expected.."

It stands above our locker room door.

But also, it's more of a matchup thing. It's a line which goes against toughest opponents. Zeta, Dats, Abdelkader, Glendy and Helm had our TOP5 highest qualcomps at last season. Also Nielsen had very high qualcomp at Islanders. And now, Holland kind of confirmed he is gonna get those tough matchups at center = Pavel's shoes.

Also, I liked the idea to move Abdelkader to protect Larkin at the second line. So this opens a winger spot (Abdelkader's former spot) on the TOP line and if it's not Glendening, it will be Helm.

You can already book it, it has been the same way every year.

Zeta - Nielsen - Helm
AKader - Larks - Nyquist
Vanek - AA/Shea - Tatar
Ott - Glendy - Shea/Miller/Jurco

It's usually the TOP line or Checking line which will start from the defensive zone and Helm will be part of either one.

My prediction:

Darren Helm will start the season on the Top Line with Zeta and Nielsen.

What's the opposite of a bold prediction? Because that's what this is.

Mine: AA scores 20 goals.

Optimistic: Riley Sheahan takes a big step forward and shows that he is the answer along with Larkin as the 1-2 combination of centers that a very good team needs

Pessimistic: Athanasiou plays in 50+ NHL games with an increase in minutes. We see that he is MUCH closer to the 14 points/season player than the 2.52 points/60 player in the long run

Bold prediction: It comes to light that Babcock actually received a PhD in robotics and Bash is actually a mechanical puppet Babcock has been using to draw two paychecks.

Actual prediction: Team finishes ninth in the conference. Holland says 'a few bounces and we'd be in'.

Who did he deal at the TDL for a low impact vet?
