Pens have holes to fill beyond goaltending and will need cap space so if Chicago has interest in taking back a roster player, I’m down.

Unless the Pens have some serious plans in free agency, not sure how they can afford to lose Zucker.

So it’s pretty much Pettersson or Jarry that’d make sense from our POV.

Assuming that Fleury doesn't report to Chicago maybe there is a potential deal that could be made with the Pens...Hawks could potentially retain money and would probably want roster player(s) in return, Bowman doesn't appear interest in future pieces at the moment...What would Pittsburgh be willing to part with to acquire Fleury?

If GMJR were our current GM, he’d have traded you Poulin, Marino, and a 2022 1st round pick for Fleury at the full cap hit.

Luckily for you, Hextall is our GM now. That means you’d be lucky to get a coupon to Primanti Brothers for a free fries with cheese at Fleury with 50% cap hit.

How does bringing in a near 40 year old Fleury help the Pens? The Pens need to start rebuilding. If it’s to allow him to retire in Pittsburgh, sure, but now is not the time with that contract. Pens need to look to the future, and that certainly doesn’t include Fleury.

Pens need to start accumulating draft picks. How many times have they drafted in the first round the past 15 years? Their prospect pool is abysmal.
Unless your goal is to get a ton of picks in the 16-20 range pit wont be able to rebuild properly as long as Sid is there. Your team will never be bad enough. We lost Toews, Dach, and Strome for almost the entire season, had an unknown goalie and still finished outside the bottom 10. Pit isnt getting good enough prospects to improve their farm unless they go full buffalo and scorch their team.

Wow then maybe the new management system needs to say and do that.....you can't have it both ways!!! Stop saying we are in win now mode when obviously the window is much closed. JR realized this hence why he isnt there ...now why does it make sense to bring in an exceptional team guy who couod mentor your younger goalie??? Or did I forgort to mention fresh off a stellar campaign where he was the NHL best goalie??? And wait 3 cups??? This is obvious. If your brain dead management thinks you are still in win now mode this choice is obvious.

The obvious offer from the Pens would be Jarry for Fleury @ 50%, straight up. It's a neutral cap move for both teams. Fleury goes to a team he will play for, Chicago gets a decent goalie who will suit up for them.
That would be terrible for Chicago. They’d essentially be paying Jarry and dead cap $7 million + next season.

The Pens’ most pressing need is a goalie. However, they also need two more top 9 forwards. We can’t overlay for MAF because we have so many other needs.

Since they're only retaining half of MAF's salary, they would only have 3.5 mil in dead cap, right? I know that's not ideal; it's just the basis for a deal. A sweetener or maybe a third team to eat cap might need to be involved to get it done.

Plus, they’d have to pay clown Jarry $3.5 mill. $7 million for dead goalie money and Jarry is horrible.

He'll be one of the 3 goalies for Team Canada at the Olympics but otherwise I don't know if he'll play in the NHL.

Not necessarily they could have moved rust who they can’t afford to sign long term and disappeared in the playoffs 2 years in a row. Moved Doumlin whose injuries have slowed him down and over 30. He had 2 years left at 4 million. Let Seattle take carter over the 25 year old Mccan. Letang and Malkin have to take pay cuts next year and that can extend the window and help the rebuild

Nothing. MAF isn't that type of player. He will go to Chicago and perform great and have a smile doing it. Pitt missed the boat again..not sure they even have a GM currently on payroll??? He is on holidays??? With so many holes to fills who would think he would attempt to plug something
The off season isn't over. Not much good comes from leaping into free agency immediately. Just look at JR in free agency. I'm fine with Hextall taking a more patient approach.

With an rapidly aging team full-on oft injured stars there really isn't time for patient approach unless they finally want to come out and admit the window is closed......this team may not make playoffs next season with this roster but hey there is always the following season and the one after that ...lol

I don't think that overpaying someone in the first few days of free agency (which is almost always what happens when you sign someone right away in free agency) is going to reopen that window.

They finished first in the division, and but for the worst goalie playoff performance since 2014 they beat the team that took the eventual back to back champs to seven games. How do you look at last season and conclude the Pens aren’t close?

Or keeping your glarings holes wide open with the rest of the NHL knowing you are now the softest team to play against
. Goaltending is below average and the forward depth thin.
Now there's a recipe for a long playoff run:naughty::naughty::naughty:

Close ?? You think they are close ?? LOL. Much like the embattled maple leafs . This team isnt build for the playoffs. The goaltending is below average anyway you put it . Massive hole there. They are the softest team now in the entire NHL, how does that fair during playoff time? Malkin is longer a factor and oft injured. He isnt a first line center on alot of teams and as low as third line C on some teams . The penguins have no third line. They lost their best D in ceci. And.....
Well could go on but do we really need to? This team has so many holes and teams in their respective division nut got better , NYR and Philly... NYI were alresdy better so was wash and you think they are a gentle tweak for overtaking the tampa bay lighting do ya ??? Phew....

Ceci was their best D? o_O Hmmmm…..

They are about as soft as they were when they went back to back. Bones, Haglin and Kessel weren’t exactly the grind line in the playoffs. We agree on goaltending. Malkin is oft hurt, but two seasons ago he scored athe highest rate in the league 5v5. So when in the lineup he’s often still elite. Obviously they’re getting older, but this is a team you take a shot with.
