la is looking for a "short" term fix (bishop would be a much better choice)one and done.
maf would be for a team looking for a goalie that could play for a few yr's. while a younger goalie is getting ready to be the starter. it seems like there would be better teams out there to trade with.

If MAF is traded does that void his NMC? LA would have plenty of options after the season in the case.

Even if that were true it's still not obvious how you make the cap work this year. Fun idea to talk about, but I doubt it goes anywhere.

I'd do this so fast if Brown were going the other way. Doesn't really work with respect to the cap otherwise.

Brown likes grinding... maybe he'd have chemistry with Crosby?

Brown & MAF make about the same money. 5.8 to 5.7. What if both teams retain 50%? For the first 3 years of MAF's contract their cap hits would be the same. After MAF's contract is up you get Brown effectively at half price. With the cap going up over the next 3 seasons 3M for Brown wouldn't be the end of the world.

Yeah, don't see this happening, maybe if Quick was gone for the season and Fleury was unrestricted after this season then maybe.

No interest in Brown, let alone until 2022 and when Bryan Rust or Connor Sheary can put up 30-ish points for a fraction of the price.

Crosby already has his grinders, their names are Kunitz and Hornqvist.

This makes no sense. Wouldn't LA then be forced to protect or buyout MA Fleury in order to keep Quick?

LOL ... the last player we need back is Dustin Brown. What part of Pittsburgh won't be taking on salary BECAUSE IT NEEDS CAP ROOM at the end of the season don't you understand?

Hate to be the one to tell you. If Pit moves MAF, they're taking cap back.

100% don't see it happening.

But give us Pearson and it's a done deal.

Ok.... Brown stuff aside, where are the most likely landing spots for MAF? He has a NMC so I'm guessing he'd want to go to a decent team. What's the list of teams that'd be interested?

Dallas makes the most sense. Playoff team in dire need of an upgrade in goal to take the next step.

Quick is hurt for 3 months so they are going to trade for MAF who has 3 years left on his contract....impossible.

Nope ... and if we do, its not much, probably an expiring contract. Defeats one of the biggest reasons why we need to move him. Not a hard concept to understand. Bringing in a garbage goalie in niemi and have him sit as a reserve for XXXmillion for one year would be a waste of cap space. That would force Pittsburgh to have to not resign maybe Daley or have to trade a valuable piece to get rid of cap space to make room for crap expensive reserve goalie. The only way Pittsburgh would do it, is if other team blows them away with incentive to do that, for instance a very good prospect or a high pick. It would be dumb for Pittsburgh to do such a deal without great incentive.

So, is Pittsburgh going to take Dustin Brown's contract?

That is a dumber thought than Ek's made up rumor. Yep, Pittsburgh's going to trade a good goalie with three years left at 5.75 per for a seriously useless player at 5.85 for the next six years. I think its obvious Brown isn't coming back.

Anyone know what the effect a trade would have on his NMC going forward? ie if he agrees to a trade, has he waived his NM, making him eligible to NOT be protected in the expansion draft?

If MAF goes to Dallas, one of their goalies is coming back to PIT. It has to happen from a cap perspective. They're around 4.5-5M signed for 2 year. There just aren't a lot of teams with 6M in cap space to pick up his contract. That is unless the Stars are rolling 3 goalies at a combined hit around $15M.

The biggest reason to move him is he would rather play somewhere other then Vegas and doesn't waive his NMC for the expansion. The GM knows right now his answer to, "Will MAF go to Vegas?" MAF is in the driver seat with the NMC.

If he doesn't mind waiving for the expansion draft, just hold on to him and ride out the year. We should be able to tell soon if rumors start coming out about MAF. Reliable rumors anyways.
