A 1st round pick would be absolutely necessary plus something else. A good prospect or good player. Maybe a 1st plus Brannstrom would be fair?

I think Thomson probably has more value but with the Panthers already having more depth at RD Brannstrom could make more sense.

Not sure Dorion pulls the trigger on any of those

Weegar is a top 30-35 defenseman in the NHL his value is as such.

Panthers are a team trying to win a cup right now.

Picks and prospects aren't going to entice the Panthers.

Feel like Connor Brown makes the most sense as a piece that Ottawa is willing to move and that can step in a provide an immediate impact to the Panthers' lineup. Both Brown and Weegar have a year left on their contract, very similar cap hits, and Florida is likely not looking for futures at this stage. I feel like Brown and Weegar have similar value as well, maybe an edge to Weegar because he plays a premium position. Ottawa can add Brannstrom to bridge the gap in value and to provide a young roster player that can play either side on one of the two bottom D pairings. Ottawa can also afford to retain on Brown to help Florida manage their cap.

Does Brown with retention + Brannstrom for Weegar draw any interest on the Panthers' end?

why would the panthers want to sacrifice defense for offense when it doesn't get them any long term cost control?

Connor Brown for Weegar may make sense for the Sens but it makes zero sense for the Panthers regardless of the small adds by Ottawa.

Yeah makes no sense for Florida. Maybe if there is a third team involved.

To Edmonton: Brown, Ottawa 2nd round pick 2024
To Florida: Edm 1st 2023, Brannstrom, Puljujarvi, Edmonton 5th 2024
to Ottawa: Weegar

Florida fans hate him - but in here will tell you he is elite.

we can't afford Pulju.

Florida really can't afford Weegar on defense, so bit confused what would make sense here...

leave Edmonton out unless Weegar is coming to Edmonton. I like Brown but no way would Edmonton give up a 1st + Puljujarvi for Brown and a 2nd in 2024.

Weegar been absolutely terrible in the playoffs, thought last year was due to Ekblad being out and that he was out of his depth, but was same story now again. Bad decision making and often out of position. If Panthers get paid like suggested by some here, they should accept it and run off with it.

Erik Brannstrom

+ Whatever the return is on C.Brown elsewhere.
depends what Brown returns but remember that your amazing moves this week makes the first less valuable. I have Ottawa as a top four team in the Atlantic and a likely playoff team even without Weegar

Panthers are in trouble with the cap. They are going to lose a bunch of guys.

Yup. And?

Weegar is better as a self rental than traded for picks/prospects that are unlikely to help the team win a cup during this window.
