I don't think Staal is nearly as bad as Girardi is. Girardi's body is shot. However, I do agree with the analysis of AV's system exploiting Staal. I still think he's a useful 4/5. Overpaid in that role? Yes. However, I still think there's some value to him. Also, Staal had a pretty good 2nd half of the season. He was overcoming major surgery that he had in the previous offseason, so that could be part of it. Not saying it's going to strengthen his skating, but it definitely didn't help him.

Girardi, however...

The length of Staal's contract is as equally unappealing as its cap cost. It is going to be difficult to find a dance partner unless we are taking an unappealing contract back.

I think Evander Kane could be that dumpster fire but with the glut of forwards we now have, there isn't much room.
