Is this the first time an American kid has gone no. 1 in the OHL Priority Selection?

No.
He’s also the sixth American-born player to be selected first overall following Jakob Chychrun (Sarnia, 2014), Alex Galchenyuk (Sarnia, 2010), Rob Schremp (Mississauga, 2002), Patrick O’Sullivan (Mississauga, 2001) and Pat Peake (Detroit, 1990).

Welcome to Sudbury kiddo.

What incredible timing too because we just lost our other #1OV super-prospect Quinton (he spelled it properly though fwiw). If anything it shows that the hockey gods certainly have a twisted sense of humour...

And like his predecessor Quinton, Quentin has a late birthday, and a giant frame working in his favour come NHL draft time- 6'3 and 180lbs at 15yrs old is no joke, especially for a dynamic offensive player and gifted skater.

And his late bday will tantalize NHL scouts because its well known that these giant framed prospects are in reality awkward and gangly teenaged boys for the most part. And it could still take years to fill it out properly when its eventually done growing.

The Wolves should be half decent next season too, at least compared to your typical last place team picking 1st OV. So hes walking into a much more favourable situation than QB did as a rookie. And it will be excited to see what kind of hype and numbers he can generate over the next couple of seasons.

When you see the picture of him standing next to UPL, he doesn't look anywhere close to the 6'3" he's listed as.

If UPL is 6'5, the kid looks like he's 6'0 or 6'1. He might have a few inches more to grow after all.

Yeah he looks closer to 6'0 for sure . They must have measured 6'3 with his skates on

I wonder why he wouldn’t he play for the UNTDP U17 team.

Seems like a kid NTDP should have locked up, big error on their part. They have been able to retain just about all the top Americans too. Maybe the kid had zero interest in going to college.

Musty wanted to play in the OHL. He had an NTDP offer and would have been a premier player for the program, but he was interested a different path. Nothing wrong with that at all. USAH should want its depth to continue to grow where they can send top players to the WHL, OHL, USHL each year and still be able to build a top NTDP team, too.

Also, no idea where the idea that Musty is 6'3 came from. He's 6'1, although his dad is probably ~2" taller than him, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him add some more height.

He seems off to a good start. I'm just shocked that not only that a top American turned down the USNTDP, but was willing to report to Sudbury. Feel the last situation where a top American reported to a "have not" OHL franchise was Bobby Ryan. Seeing these kids land in London, Windsor or Kitchener isn't surprising, like Stranges a couple years ago. Seeing them reporting to places like Sudbury or North Bay is.

It's great for the league though. Now Sudbury just needs a new arena desperately.
