Hm. I really thought he would do well in Boston after his performance in the 2015 playoffs.

He had the best season of his career for Boston, then he got injured and never was the same player. It was dramatic.

Beleskey's cap hit is 1.9. With him buried in the AHL, that drops to 875k. Why would the Rangers trade him and retain 50%? His cap hit would actually go up. The only reason would be to clear a contract, but there are easier ways to do that. The Rangers are at 48 contracts, so that's not even a consideration at this point.

NYR should not eat anything, agreed.
Doesn't pay for someone to take him.
If someone wants him for nothing, fine.
If he is strategic add in a deal w/2 or more bad contracts getting swapped, fine.

Depends if there are still some teams out there who consider him a "NHL player".

Even 950K still seems pricey for a reclamation project who is currently struggling at the AHL level.

Those numbers are pretty damning, but as a guy still under 30 who's had success in this division before, there's still the possibility he could bounce back with a full summer of training and rehab. The Oilers, specifically are looking for a guy in the Patrick Maroon mold and Beleskey offers some of those qualities. At $950k and a fairly low acquisition cost, I see him as a decent gamble who at worst is an AHL veteran who doesn't impact the salary cap.

For the Rangers, it depends what their plans are with this player. True he only adds an $875k cap hit while buried, but could they be enticed to add an additional $75k to the cap for an additional pick or a prospect?
