he asked for a trade according to benning. dahlen said he didnt like the way utica was being run.

heres what trent cull said
His agent did, not Dahlén, when asked about if his agent had asked about a trade he said he didn't think so. Which would mean either his agent asked for it without talking with Dahlen about it beforehand, or Benning misinterpreted his agent.

He did however say he didn't enjoy playing in Utica, and just want to put it behind him.

Watch him make the Sharks right out of camp next season :ha:
4 in 4 now. From the interviews he said he was miserable in Utica because of the coaching staff and it drained his energy and passion to play. Seems to be true due to his pretty drastic improvement instantly when he got to SJ.

Understandable for someone to want a change of environment. I don't begrudge him wanting to focus on himself and find a better situation at all.

I just don't understand why Benning had to lose a trade to help him accomplish that.

Allsvenskan isn’t helping Dahlin become an NHLer at this point. It’s his 4th season there. If he wants to be an NHLer he needs to play in a better league, instead of going back to the same league he has dominated as a 19 and 20 year old.

Lots of fine NHLers has been tearing up allsvenskan before coming over. At this point its hard to say Dahlen has what it takes or not to make it in NHL.

For a recent example, Carl Söderberg spent a ton of seasons in Allsvenskan.
And he was an afterthought until he moved to the SHL for 2 years before being offered a contract by the Bruins.

Dahlen needs to move up a level if he doesn’t plan on staying in the AHL.

It’s more than fair if he enjoys home and wants to play there. It’s a great, great option for him. But if he wants to get a chance in the NHL, he needs to move out of the Allsvenskan.

If he sticks with Timrå he could very well help them back to the SHL and the problem is solved.
