Here is what I see going forward

1) I Del Zotto gets traded for a 3rd or 4th round pick

2) I do no see Chris Tanev getting traded

3) I see the Canucks trying to trade Alex Edler and him saying no.

4) I see Thatcher Demko getting traded at the Draft for a 2nd round pic

5) I see Nikita Tryamnkin getting traded for a 3rd round pick

6) I see the seats in Rodgers Arena being changed from Red to Green and Blue

7) I see Sergei Bobrovsky being signed in the off season to a 4 year $40 million dollar deal

8) I see Jim Benning still being GM when opening night start next year

9) I see the Canucks looking for a top 6 forward Matthew Boldy is a name to watch for

10) I see Elias Pettersson finishing 2nd in Rookie of the year voting. The voters will give it to Dahlin because he is playing for a Team that is going to make the Playoffs in Buffalo

I doubt del Zotto gets a 3rd or 4th as no one traded for him a couple years ago. I would be happily surprised if he did though.

I could see it. Dude is trash but there always seems to be a demand for veteran defensemen at the deadline even if they just end up being warm bodies.

Why would we trade Demko for a 2nd when we used a high 2nd to draft him. Nilson is UFA after this year, he will be the backup next year hopefully earning more starts than Markstrom as the season progresses. I don't see Bob here, my guess is he's in Calgary next year. The rest is plausible and some likely. Though I'd be pretty annoyed that WD cost us Tryamkin. MDZ should be moved for a conditional 7th at the TDL for all I care, same with Pouliot.

There's some interesting crystal ball gazing there.

But the chances of getting more than a used hockey bag for Del Zotto are basically zero. Philly tried two years ago with no success.

For a team with one of the worst bluelines in the entire NHL, trading a guy like Trymakin for a third rounder would be pure folly. Not that Jimbo isn't capable of it. but just can't see it. And trading Demko, when your only options are Markstrom and Nilsson, who's on an expiring contract. Can't see that either.

And while I agree they probably will try and fail to trade Edler, I'm not so sure about Tanev. If this team is miles below the playoff as expected by the trade deadline, the return for Tanev might at its highest. Of course that's assuming he's healthy by then.

Finally I see good chance of Sutter being dealt when he's healthy. If Gaudette starts scoring, then he's a younger, cheaper third line center...with Beagle holding down the fourth center position, they don't need Sutter.

I don't see Benning trading Tryamkin for a pick. A defencemen taken in the first round that will soon need to clear waivers or needs to clear waivers would be his target. I predict Slater Koekkoek.

In the off-season I predicted that Benning would not acquire any 2019 picks in the first three rounds. I'm sticking with that call. But I like the spirit of the original post.

I'd be pleased and surprised if the Canucks got a fourth for Del Zotto. I'd be pleased with a fifth, for that matter. A third would be a great return, but I don't see it.

A third for Tryamkin would also be good, as I'm skeptical about his desire to return to Vancouver (though that's just baseless speculation on my part; I don't buy any of the predictions about Tryamkin that claim to be based on insider info).

I hope you're wrong about Demko. But if he struggles in Utica, a second could end up being a good return.

Yeah but, Benning is GM so expect for us to keep him or near-busted prospect that will need to pass through waivers next year. I would be happy if we got a 6th for him like Wideman.

1) possibly
2) neither do I, I think they want him to play with Hughes
3) Edler has asked for an extension and the Canucks aren't interested. I could see him getting moved and him agreeing to it as long as it wasn't as a rental (Trade and sign).
4) Not sure why we would do this, or why another team would give up a 2nd rounder for an unproven goalie.
5) Yeah, and we won't be happy about it.
6) Too much $
7) wtf
8) yeah, he's got another year.
9) We'll see where we are drafting first. We might be drafting another top liner.
10) EP is our team's MVP, can the Sabres say that about Dahlin (as good as he's been?). He's not even their #1 Dman.

Defenders don't win ROY unless there are no standouts at forward. Look at McAvoy last year, should have won it going away based on value but didn't even finish 3rd.

Eh I normally agree and Ohlund was absolutely jobbed by this in 1998 but Barzal's 85 points (13th in league scoring, 5th in assists) was a legit win, especially after McAvoy missed nearly 20 games.

McAvoy should have been ahead of Boeser, though.

Aquilini and Benning may react to Petterson, or not? The first step would be to move Benning out of personnel. The new player acquisition manager would need to find a starting goalie, a defense and some specialists.

It would be easier to do nothing. I think they take the easy route. Every Summer they sign some guy and everybody goes WTH? They never address any holes in the roster directly.

Petterson continues to be pretty much by himself. When he marries he goes back to Sweden.

Tryamkin waits it out until he can go to a normal team.

Benning is extended two years, then retires. Green tries to build a team out of undrafted Winter Hawk alumni.

Canucks, inexplicably go on a playoff run in two or three years but early fires make Vancouver air unbreathable and they are forced into an all away game final against Tampa Bay Lightening (Hurricane damage) in Las Vegas. President for life drops the puck in the ceremonial first face off. It's going to be great!

This is such a non-issue. The only guys that opt to stay in school for 4 years and go on to become free agents are projects. In other words guys that actually need four years of development in college. Most are not top ten draft picks or even first rounders. Other than Blake Wheeler how many college first rounders can you name that have gone the free agent route?
