Guys, Slavin dove like a fish out of water. Let’s just accept it and move on. Between Skjei and Slavin we gave the main board enough to chew on for the next decade the way they’ll go on about it.

I disagree that it was a dive. Getting slashed on the back of the leg sucks, and his reaction was way too instantaneous to be premeditated.

That was a pretty light whack, and despite popular belief there’s plenty enough padding in the back for a light slash like that. Guys can react or adapt their reaction that quick. I’m sure he moved his leg forward in natural reaction but the dance that went with it was all flair. Dives aren’t that premeditated usually, there’s typically some kind of actual contact the player legitimately reacts to….they just continue on past the point their body actually needs to. Thats why a lot of actual dives look natural, they’re just carrying on with the motion their bodies are pushed into. That’s why so many boarding calls are on dives imo. The guys know it’s coming and go limp on contact and let the motion take them…with a little extra on the head snap.

Anyways, I’m comfortable agreeing to disagree with you on this one. The announcers and Roy’s reactions were appropriate.

I agree with something posted on the main board GDT — this was like a regular season win where the better team wins by an apparently small margin without necessarily looking “better”.

Neither team brought playoff hockey. It will keep getting harder from here.

It certainly wasn't a playoff feel kind of night in either series I watched. Hella glad they got the win after that 2nd with virtually no SOG. They survived the rust game and won. That's what good teams do.

Yep. People cry "dive" way too easily. When you're already on the ragged edge of balance trying to move fast, even a small amount of force can make you completely lose your edge in a way that looks really stupid on replay, especially slow motion, but is a perfectly legitimate fall. Same with the Skjei controversy early in the game. He was twisted around four ways to Sunday and got torqued while he was already in a weird off kilter position. Very few players are going to be able to keep their feet in that scenario.

As for there being padding on the back of the leg, it's a thin soft layer that only really covers the calf rather than the hard plastic in front, and older generations of shinpads don't even have that, just elastic straps. And a lot of NHLers use the ratty old gear they feel comfortable in rather than the more modern stuff. If you whack the back of the leg, you'll feel it. More importantly, if that whack moves the leg enough to slip the skate forward, you very well may lose your footing. Slavin just isn't a guy who's going to dive, either. It's simply not in his DNA, and I think he's more than proven that over the years.

Man, it’s an empty netter to make it 3-1. That’s a very reasonable take from them lol. If we’re gonna even begin to defend “that’s wasn’t a sweep” from RBA… Isles fans saying it was effectively a 1 goal game is perfectly reasonable.
agree.

This was a one goal game that Andersen won for us with stellar and some luck play. Let's not get jaded here. We sucked for 2 periods.

We almost drove the 3 hours for this one on an AM decision, and we dediced NOT to based on the fact that we have lost all 4 games I went to this year.

The Canes are now 39-0 with me in attendance over a period of 18 years lol. (I'll admit I didn't go to a single game between 2011 and 2019)

Not for sportsbooks that empty netter won me 4000$
The outdoor game is only one of a couple wins I’ve witnessed in the last 10 years (granted I don’t make it to many)

The point people seem to be missing is that deliberately hitting a guy with your stick in the back of the leg is in fact against the rules and doing it right in front of an official is a room temperature IQ move.

If the end result ends up being that the Isles are paying more attention to the refs than the game, I don't care, they can dive all they want.

Fact of the matter is, even Jarvis is bodying these guys. And when you slash and whack all game long, eventually the refs are going to call it

I really doubt Slavin dove, did anyone catch his reaction on his face? He winced out in pain. Maybe that was an act too, but this is the guy that admitted to cursing once on the ice (in juniors) and still regrets it.

If we want to talk about going down on your skates easily, we should focus on Aho. I dare say he may be one of the premier divers in the league. Even in this game he went down two times without calls, probably because he is getting a reputation for it now.
