Hi all just got on and catching up with deals.

So anyone have a definitive number of where we're at cap wise and player wise???

A quick look at fanager says 12 forwards and 7 d signed with just under 15 in cap space. This with kadri, marincin and Bernier as RFA's. Assuming Kadri at 4-5, and Bernier at the same, Marincin at 1ish, we should still have 4-5 in cap space and some Vets to trade yet (Bozal, Lupul)

Are my numbers about right?

edit I think numbers also have hortons cap recapture if necessary I believe adds another 5 to the available cap???

Horton's cap recapture?

He's not on a back-diving deal.

He counts on the cap until the season starts then they put him on LTIR, and get him off the cap.

Sorry wrong wording.

Meant I think those numbers include his salary and cap hit, which can be used if we go over the cap by that amount. So basically adds his total cap hit to available cap if needed.

So from what I see quickly, the available cap of 14.6 includes horton, so we currently have almost 20 in cap space. So we have 20 to sign those 3 plus room to play, if we choose to go over cap by Hortons Salary, is this right?

Signing Kadri for anything over 4.5 is just as bad as previous contracts. Bernier hasn't proven **** yet either. We should have a ton of space and be a bottom dweller.

I think they'll end up doing something like $4.5 x 3 years for both Kadri and Bernier.

It gives the Leafs a lot of flexibility with that type of contract.

I was only assuming a 4-5 range for both, could be less or more. More interested in the overall salary and player structure after alot of recent changes.

Would luv if someone could put together a current lineup with salaries and see where we're at, then add in buyouts and Horton's salary and the amount over the cap it gives us, and put the big picture total of where we're at.

So the way I understand it is once we reach the cap, then Hortons salary kicks in and we can go another 5mil over. But if we are not at the cap then his salary will count towards our total cap (ie: helps us reach the floor)

During the off-season, teams get a 10% bonus cushion, but there is no LTIR, so Horton's $5.3M counts towards the cap limit of ($78.54M) which is $71.4 x 1.1

Once the season starts, then Horton goes on LTIR, but the Leafs also lose the 10% bonus.

So, per my previous post, assuming we re-sign Kadri at $5.5M, Bernier at $4.75M, and Marincin at $1.5M, we will have $9.322M in cap space when the season starts.

During the remainder of the off-season, assuming again we sign the RFAs as above, we have $11.162M in cap space.

As of right now, we have $22.512M

Bernier wants term, so 4.5 is likely only happening if we do 8-yrs.

Kadri won't be paid less than Lupul. Zero debate.

I really hope that Bernier isn't signed to a huge deal like some are suggesting. He hasn't earned much more than the $2.9M he was making on his last contract. The same applies to Kadri, he hasn't earned anything. I'd rather trade both than give either of them over $4M per year.

Well he very well might be paid less than Lupul so there definitely is a debate there. He has done nothing to prove he deserves that amount, and Lupul was signed under the old regime when he could be a UFA, not RFA as Kadri currently is.

It seems the only people suggesting that Bernier should be on a longer term deal, are the Bernier camp.

Everyone here seems to favor the short term bridge, and it appears the Leafs prefer that too - club elected arbitration.

However, you can understand Bernier's concerns with the bridge as well; if we are set to be an awful team for the next few years, does he really want his prime contract to be based on his play in front of said team?

Even the Carey Price & Lundqvists of this league would struggle behind the potential team we might put out next season

:amazed:

Last year's tank was nothing. This year's is gonna be special after looking at that line up.

Arizona is our only competitor in the race for Matthews or Chychrun.

A bridge for Bernier is a bridge to unrestricted free agency, so it's either long term or let him walk. If he won't do a long term deal on low dollars, trade him.

LOL at what Bernier, Kadri get/ They might get half that. Casey Baily will also be in the minors.
