It's much like a sales job where you have a small base salary and the lions share if your income is sales commissions.

Looks like it should result in an overage of just under $860k for 2017-18 if CF's figures are correct.

McDavid and Draisaitl hit all of their performance bonuses. Slepyshev, Caggiula and Nurse missed all of theirs. So $5.325m in earned bonuses against $4.466m of cap space remaining for 2016-17. The extra gets carried over.

That's not too bad....Blackhawks are getting hit again with Panarin maxing out his bonus hit....i believe they barely had 10k in cap space to begin with so his hit alone will probably be double what the Oilers overages combined will be.

McDavid probably hit everything.

Drai gets money for 20 goals and for top 10 in points. Don't know if he gets anything else.

If it is only a 860k overage, that's okay.

Next season though, it's not okay. We can't have overage going into the 2018-19 season. We should just assume that Puljujarvi and McDavid hit all their bonuses, and maybe even give ourselves even more buffer on top of that. We should work to get rid of that Fayne contract for sure.
