Leafs will score over 300 goals in 17/18

Probably their worst game of the season and still 3 goals.
Wait. I thought the Devils game was all about the Leafs playing historically bad, probably their worst game ever.

Is that the only time they can lose? When they play their worst?

This is a great topic. It’s so hard to think they can keep it up. But they’re definitely darn good on offence.

No, but after only 8 games that's been the case. Though against Montreal they also could've lost, the other 5 games were flat out dominant.

I make my living betting on sports bet 200$ last night on leafs at 2.05 return tidy $410 also another $ 205.40 on Leafs Kings and Blues to win @ $20 on 10.27 odds only 2 bets made yesterday Leafs put me in the black now after my Oilers had me in red up untill last night. Leafs are legit their forecheck and speed is going to give teams fits all season
Since you're a betting man whats the odds on Matthews beating your golden boy in scoring? because if the leafs get 300+ goals I like his chances.

They talked about this on Hockey central at noon. If they continue calling slashing as tightly as they are now, it opens up those lanes and basically allows anyone to go anywhere unimpeded. Than scoring won't dry up in the later half. (theoretically)

The big question is, that if they DO keep up those calls and scoring all over the league is up...do we follow through with shrinking goalie equipment?

Pretty sure during the game before the Battle of Ontario game, someone did an interview with one of the refs and the ref said they have no intentions of stopping the crack down on slashing. So it will stay being a more open game.

I think we could do it

You had best activate yourself then, the team is going to need your 20+ goals and 50ish points.

Only teams to reach 300+ goals in the last 20 years:
Washington in 2009/2010
Buffalo in 2006/2007
Ottawa in 2005/2006
Detroit in 2005/2006

So none of these teams won a Cup. Leafs need to rein it in and tighten up to succeed, looks like.

I think they could do it but will probably fall just short.

The defenses they've played for the most part are playing below average. Currently, only the blackhawks (5th) and sens (3rd) were in the top 15 in GA. The leafs need to play more top 15 defenses. Everyone else was below average to bottom of the league.

sens -3rd
hawks - 5th
devils - 16
red wings - 19
rangers - 21
caps - 21
jets - 26
canadians - 29

the leafs may also decide to trade offense for defense at the trade deadline. They need to play some of the decent defensive teams. They are still the best offensive team though.

I don't doubt they'll move a forward or two for a Dman but, that forward will be a prospect so it won't have any impact as far as goals scored goes.

Can this thread be changed to "Leafs will be scored against over 300 goals in 17/18"? Because they are now 3rd most scored against team in NHL with 40 GA averaging 3.64 per game and pace is accelerating. Now it's just under 300 in 82 games but it seems "they can do it". They may make it to playoffs because they also score a lot but hold the cup parade planning for now.

This is exactly why "pace" and predictions are so useless.

People forget that there are 30 teams in the league and you have to get through to December-January before you've even played everyone once.

Games are independent events. Playing well against team x means squat for how you play team y and with video and scouting, teams are constantly adjusting their tactics.

Leafs outshot the Devils 50-31 in that game.

Is this still a thing? Lol

Still on pace for 315. But pales in comparison to tampas 334 goal pace. Only difference is tampa is also only on pace to allow 230 goals while the leafs are on pace to allow 270 goals.

The start of the season is always the highest scoring part and the last month goals are at a premium.
PP goals are always higher this time of year as teams get used to their PK system.

Don't use this first month as a reliable pace.
